Hi everyone - I stated it briefly in the video, but I wanted to put out another disclaimer about the accessories made to access the page buttons: do this at your own risk. The page and home buttons are hard-mounted to the PCB and are NOT rated to withstand a lot of pressure. You'll probably be fine as long as you're not reckless, but knowing what I know now, I would probably not recommend them for that reason. I shared them in this video because I thought it was such a creative idea but if you decide to give them a shot, be cautious that you don't treat them like the main footswitches. Many more videos to come these next few weeks as update 3.0 has just been released! All the best.

Ever since I have figured out what amps clean up well and can do high gain I have fallen in LOVE with my stomp. Just ordered an expression pedal to control amp gains and volumes so I can do a gradual parameter sweep for levels of gain and volume on any amp I choose, and also any bypasses for drives to goose or flavor the gain. Its great on the Cartographer which is now my favorite model on Helix, super versatile. I also have my screen protector from CEBA and even though I am just a bedroom player I feel so much less paranoid about damaging the units screen which is indeed delicate. Just need to get myself an upgraded powersupply unless you think 1.1A is safe enough overhead on a Truetone CS6, and midi controller! Thank you so much for sharing about CEBA Gear, the screen protector is invaluable!

The cs-6 will power a stomp out of the box. You use the red invert polarity cable into the green line 6 barrel size cable. No need to use a current doubler.
@LCRLive6873 жыл бұрын
You mean as the power adapter? So do you mean insert the red cable into the power input of the hX stomp? Do you think a Cooks brick will work too?

@@LCRLive687 According the email I recieved from truetone you plaug a normal cable into the cs-6/7/12 then use the red inverting polarity cable on that and finally use the green line 6 inverting cable to increase the barrel size and flip the polarity once more. This was instructions from the company not my personal opinion on tbe matter. In terms of other power supplies, I do not know.

I used the same One-Spot power supply for a while but in certain buildings my HX stomp wouldn’t turn on. I learned that you can seriously damage your stomp because of the lack of voltage so of course I got the cioks dc7 and it’s never let me down.
@AlexPriceMusician Жыл бұрын
The voltage shouldn’t be changing at all if the power supply is working properly. Are you maybe talking about current? The incorrect voltage can definitely harm a device but when it comes to amperage (current), the device just simply won’t start if it’s not getting enough. The Stomp takes around 1200ma upon startup, then settles down to around 900ma when it’s running.

HX Stomp XL has footswitches 1-6 onboard and 7+8 by way of external dual switch. The original Stomp has footswitches 1-3 onboard and 4+5 on the external footswitch. With MIDI you can have almost an unlimited number of footswitches. A MIDI CC value can act just like a footswitch.

Just got the stomp, some interesting ideas. Any reason you don't record direct via the stomp as an inteface? Didn't know the buttons have a skin touch alternative use... is that deliberate or not meant to happen, couldn't work out what the rubber clear button accessories were for
@AlexPriceMusician3 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's deliberate. Capacitance sensing switch detect a very small amount of electricity when in contact with your skin. I personally turn that off in global settings. I do use the Stomp as an interface frequently. Depending on how I'm set up in my room, connecting the Stomp via USB to my computer can cause a ground loop so I use the Pinstripe DISO I mentioned here with ground lift into my interface when that happens.

The CS power supplies automatically allocate the current needed for any given pedal, including the Stomp. No matter what the mA number is labeled on any of the power outputs. So for this use case you wouldn't ever need a Y power cable for the stomp. One cable only. Also the Stomp uses around 1000mA. It never uses 1300.
@AlexPriceMusician2 жыл бұрын
Correct. The CS-series power supplies won’t need a doubler. Pretty much every other power supply will. The Stomp uses significantly more than 1000ma when it’s starting up. Once it’s running it sits around 1000ma.

Hey Alex, Do you get a constant ground buzz/hum while using stomp only with guitar and headphones (nothing else connected - no USB, no amp etc.). It goes away when I touch any metal part of my guitar or stomp itself. Also, it stops as soon as I connect it through the USB to my laptop (if it’s powered by grounded power supply). I’ve seen many people experience that, but it seems that not everyone. I’m trying to figure out if my unit is defective or stomp just isn’t meant to be used on its own.

Hey Armin - no, sorry. It sounds like you definitely have a grounding issue. Not sure if it's in the Stomp or in your house. What if I were to put a double footwitch and an expression pedal that has a toe switch (like the crybaby wah), making a total of 3 external footswitches (one of them integrated in the expression pedal)?

Great video. Quick question....I’m looking at the stomp or podgo. Just for home use. I don’t gig. Which would you recommend? My goal is to have a way to reduce the amount of amps and pedals I need in a room yet flexible.
@AlexPriceMusician4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ron. The PodGo is great, but is a bit limited and designed more as an all-in-one rig. The HX Stomp is much more flexible and can cover a lot of ground. It's also meant to go on a pedalboard and to be used with a bunch of other gear so for that reason, I'd suggest the HX Stomp. For new users, I'm in the process of working out a deal with zZounds to include a massive bundle of my own presets with the purchase of a Helix unit. Cool stuff! Would you do a similar video for the helix floor and\or lt? 2nd question, I was actually just searching around for a cheap laptop that can run hx edit. Would the one in this video also run a daw, recording software?
@AlexPriceMusician4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ian - I don't own the Floor or LT models (yet?) so I'm not sure I could do a reliable rundown. I'm pretty familiar with the Stomp and its limitation so even though I haven't tried all of the products in this video, I felt comfortable sharing some of them. That wouldn't be the case with the larger models. The tablet/laptop I mentioned in this video runs Windows 10, so I'm sure that you could download Audacity or another DAW, however it would probably not run very smoothly. A DAW will take a lot of processing power that something at this budget wouldn't be able to supply. The great thing is that since the Helix does its own monitoring (meaning that your guitar goes directly from the unit to the headphone output and doesn't have to make a trip to and from the DAW), we can raise the output buffer in the DAW a lot without increasing latency.

How did you find out that 3.0 update will be out at the end of the month? My HX stomp will be delivered in 3 days from the time of this comment. I've been looking for information on when the 3.0 update with 8 blocks will come out, I couldn't find a release date. Where did you find out from if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry, I don't mean to stir the pot anymore than it already is! That was just an assumption based on what I've been following from Line 6, and the fact that Boss just came out with their own Stomp-competitor a few days ago. I don't know any more than the rest of the community.

@@AlexPriceMusician oh ok I see. Yeah I saw the boss gt 1000 came out. Cant wait for my stomp. Be here in 2 days

when are they going remove the 8 block limit ?
@AlexPriceMusician4 жыл бұрын
There's a 6-block limit at the moment. In update 3.0 we'll have expanded access to 8 blocks.

Found a Reddit article stating from a line6 firmware dev that the potential phantom power issue is non existent on smaller models. Big models beyond 2019 are also no issue.. lmk if anyone wants it.

Great video. Actually, a higher signal-to-noise ratio means lower noise compared to signal.

Awesome vid, but just out of interest because I don’t know if there’s a reason other than aesthetics....why not just get the Lt version if you gonna add all those extension buttons anyway?

The HX Stomp is already really powerful. I have a few external pedals that I'm not sure I could part with, so for me this is a solution to get a bit of both worlds on my board.

Re body capacitance on the footswitches … are people playing barefoot to use this?! 😊 Otherwise, you have to reach down to touch it with a finger? Kinda weird, lol. Cheers! 🙂

Why do you need a DI box with preamps in it? The Stomp already has a dozen preamps built-in...
@AlexPriceMusician2 жыл бұрын
If you’re referring to 11:55 - “an external DI box with preamps” I just misspoke. I meant to say transformers. A DI box is not typically a preamp.

Hey man just a note I run a cs6 with hx stomp. You only need to run 1 cable. You even mentioned in the video about how truetone is different as it gives you an overall amount to pulled from it. Truetone explains they only put rating on it because they have too. The cs6 included all the cables to convert the standard cable over to 2.5. I also used the line 6 reverse cable sent in the cs6 box as well. I get using the dual cable with the cioks as it is needed. If you have any questions man feel free to hit me up. I like the cs6 as it still let me use all of the other outputs. Great video though man I did not know 3.0 is suppose to include 8 blocks that really exciting!

The problem is that the pitch shifting sounds very irritatingly cheap especially on octave up. Need to use the fx loop for adding a proper one. The rest is decent using this as either for practice or for a backup rig.

We got a ton of great sounding pitch shifters in the latest update if you haven’t explored it yet.

Awesome video, but ignore the Direct Input box explanation part. Di’s don’t amplify on the contrary, they balance the signal and make it run at Mic level. What is great about that type of Di (passive apparently), due to transformers: it can be used as a reamp box.
@AlexPriceMusician4 жыл бұрын
Well technically, it's a line isolator. Sorry if I was misleading in the verbage. What I should've said is that this one does not lose any signal *compared to a regular DI. I was so used to losing about 20db from using a regular DI that I actually suspected the DISO+ was boosting my signal. Here's a quick explanation: The HX Stomp's outputs are low impedance unbalanced, despite what the chassis says. What the DISO does is take the low impedance, unbalanced signal and converts it to low impedance, balanced. A regular DI is meant to go from high impedance unbalanced and convert it to low impedance balanced. If you were to use a regular DI, you'd be dropping the signal by about 20db.
@simaojoseph4 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPriceMusician apart for repeating what I said (with other words) , are you sure the HX line outs aren’t balanced? If that particular Di box boost your signal maybe it’s designed to be used with low output instruments.
@AlexPriceMusician4 жыл бұрын
The HX Stomp’s outputs are technically impedance-balanced, but not differential which is where the actual benefits of a balanced signal are. It doesn’t boost your signal at all, rather other DI boxes are cutting your signal by up to 20db.
@simaojoseph4 жыл бұрын
@@AlexPriceMusicianso not symmetrical. Hopefully you’ll understand that the general direct boxes out there are doing what they’re supposed to do, and that the one you’re showcasing is the oddball. I personally like having a somewhat less hot signal going into the head amplifiers on the desks I use. Cheers.

The FX are great, but the Distortion sounds not good, especially the interferences between dissonant intervals are very, very unharmonic (sounds digital not at all like valves/tubes) in the overdriven Sounds.

Where is the breakpoint where all these small accessories and cables to hook them up end up being a bigger hassle than getting the Helix LT? I'm not criticizing this approach at all...just wondering.
@AlexPriceMusician4 жыл бұрын
I own the HX Stomp because I like what it's able to add to my existing pedalboard. I'm dedicated to a few external pedals that I could never get rid of and so the LT wouldn't work for me. Expanded control of the HX Stomp is better in my case.
