I sent an Email to hornady about making the 160 RNSP again (in .266 to match the original and deal with the bore variance across guns) because of the influx of carcano’s there is now a great demand for a larger than .264 projectiles. I recommend you all send them an email as well. Mass emails is what it took to get them to start making projectiles in .311 for the mosin when an influx of those came in.

I did as well. Also said to not stop making the 7.35 bullet as well. Hopefully our comments don’t fall on deaf ears. Things are crazy right now so I can’t see them tooling up in the next year but hopefully once thing slow down a little bit

I think you meant .268 dia. for carcano 's in 6.5 and the .311 is great for enfields .303 as well. Have you tried paper patching the .264 bullets? I've always had fairly good luck with that method and have used it since 1966.

It's just insane that due to the influx of 6.5 Carcano rifles & carbines, that the major ammo makers have not (yet) started to manufacture 6.5mm Carcano ammo with .268" or even .270" diameter bullets. Nobody should HAVE TO reload in order to get good performing ammo. This seems like it would be just good business to serve more customers.

I've had very good results with the .268" diameter PPU bullets, I love them.

Seems to me that casting to standard 6.5mm dimensions - .264 - and powder coating to bring up the other 3 to 4 thousandths needed (along with elimination of leading), offers a lot to the solution of the Carcano .268 bore issue.

3d printed Single Shot adapter is an option as well, print you own from Thingiverse or buy $20 from Ammo Farie

I recently picked up two carcano model 91s and a few cases of 6,5 x 52 ammo from PPU rifleline. I tryed chambering a round but the bolt wont fully close on either rifle. most likely will bring them to a gunsmith soon. the carcnos are both chamber in the correct size as both guns have 6.5 x 52 stamped. Can anyone help? did not get my clips in yet but i dont think that will make a difference with closing the bolt fully.
@TheKoba49
@TheKoba49 3 жыл бұрын
the reason the bolt is not closing is with a mannlicher system the extractor does not snap over the rim of the cartridge, you must feed the ammo from the clip so the rim slides up under the extractor, if you are just putting a round in the chamber and trying to close the bolt you will probably break the extractor.

@@TheKoba49 thank you so much for the response I'll make sure to subscribe. I figured the clip may have had something to do with it so I didn't try to close the bolt too hard

I just began reloading for my Carcanos. I was able to find some PPU 123 gr SP .268 bullets in stock, and some Steinel 150 gr .268 torpedo bullets that look identical to your hand cast bullets. I’ve shot the PPU w/ decent results w/ charges of IMR 3031 ranging from 27-31 gr. I haven’t yet tested the Steinel, but just loaded some rounds up w/ 28 gr 3031. How did you determine seating depth for your hand cast bullets? I set mine between the 3rd and 4th band- so a little shallower seat than what you have done. Curious about pressure differences w/ different seat depths. Am I over-thinking it?

I don't think that seating depth would be an issue with a rifle cartridge like this, it is more of a problem with smaller cartridges like 9mm

It's a good thing I sold my 3 Carcano rifles about 3 yrs. ago even though they had good bores.... I hand load, but ammo was always an issue plus none were really straight shooters sights sucked.... Had to hand load for each rifle to get decent groups..... Think we will be seeing these milsurp rifles as others for sale in the future ? be well....

That's a shame, w/o a lot of work there dang good rifles! I still have 3-4 here, all sporterized that my grandsons and I have taken a lot of deer with over the decades. We had an advantage of a running supply of WWII Ammo plus paperpatched .264 bullets to increase accuracy of reloads.

@@chrisriker6421 , That's good 👍.. I guess you reloaded also to get the most out of these rifles.. Supplies are crazy expensive now.. With all these rifles coming in think ammo will be be like .303 British and hunting ammo gotta make yourself.. be well and Keep America Great 👍.

But 6.5 mm is only .2559 of an inch?

Yes but most every 6.5 cartridges use a .264 diameter bullet. the carcano uses a .268 diameter bullet

This is due to the bore sizing being rated via either lands or grooves inside the barrel, the practice has changed ways over the years. That's why a .44 black powder revolver uses .45 or .455 caliber bullets/balls.
