I did the 30/10 Rule with "Cas," and I ended up spending 1 hour each day, and the number of things I let go of was insane. I feel like a minimalist now. Now it takes me 30 minutes to spot clean and tidy my entire home.

There is nothing more satisfying than a whole, long weekend dedicated to declutter and reorganize. Nice music, nobody else in the house.... I love it.

I'm a pack rat, and you've discussed the methods that work for me, especially the reverse decluttering. Pull out everything of one type (not everything in the house!!), and then pick your favorites or what you would buy again or wear/use often. It's much easier to donate what's left than it is to start by trying to find items to discard. As you said, it's like shopping your own stuff. I also like the different boxes method, and working on one small area at a time. The other day I did a second pass of weeding out kitchen utensils and today I weeded out my sock drawers. (Yes, I have more than one but they're very small.) Maybe someday I'll get down to one! Subscribed. Have a blessed and happy New Year!

Some unique ideas right there 👍🏼 loved the idea of reverse decluttering and “shopping” one’s own stuff and the minimalist game!

Reverse declutterring worked really well in my closet. I pulled everything out, then only returned what fit me and I liked wearing. It feels good to say YES! and be excited about organizing my closet rather than having to say no or it’s too small, etc. When I ran out of room in my closet, the leftover clothes were donated.

Reverse your hangers. When you wear an item, put it back with the hanger the regular way. Set a time limit such as one year. All backward item go.

I am always into reverse decluttering. It makes so much sense. Thanks for the other tips. ❤

I like the idea of concentrating on what you are keeping instead of losing, I am pretty good at getting rid of things, and the mindset of Swedish death cleaning certainly helps clarify a reason to declutter. I am currently watching on KZbin Nat Robb, who is doing 10-15 minutes every day in a series called Chaos to Calm, I recommend her channel it is very good.

Every Lent, I do a 40 days minimalist game. I start 5 days early because 45 days gets you over 1000 things. I do it in reverse. I start with 45 and work my way to 1 because I am totally out of steam at day 45 and I am motivated on day 1. Or I do a 45 day game bingo. I can only hit each number once but the6 can be out of order. It works pretty well for me. 😊

I do the minimalist game often when I feel the house is getting out of hand. I do cheat sometimes though. For example. Say on day 4 I declutter 6 clothes hangers out of my closet I will cross off Day 6 😂

Haha I love it 😂 Still counts.

Thank you, Sweetheart! Things I will use today, declutter 21 items (I take them to blessing box in town) along with a few food items. I have been giving away a lot of clothes, but will use hanger trick to do more. Really like the calendar ideas...very doable and motivating. Taking leftover Christmas paper and boxes to blessing box...still time for something else to use gift wrap Blessings on your day.

I am a bit of a sentimentalist,I find it very hard to get rid of cards or drawings that my girls have given me,now I have a granddaughter and it's the same for her things, but I understand what you mean about them having to sort out all the things when I pass,my mum has gone into a care home and obviously can't take everything with her and sorting out her things is taking forever because she is the sort of person who sees things in a catalogue and buys it whether she needed it or not

I prefer declutterring in a marathon mode. I organized for 6 hours yesterday.

I've used an adaptation of the 4-box method for some time now. My adaptation is to add a fifth box - 'Consign' - which is motivating because you can earn back some of the money you spent on items, especially still-in-fashion clothing, accessories and some home goods.

I was sure you were going to mention the “no mess” method. Dana K White’s Decluttering at the Speed of Life. A truly no mess method. Whatever doubts or questions you may have, I urge you to listen all the way to the end, because she covers it at some point in the book.

@@wilhelmina8843Have you ever run a sewing machine? From the question I am guessing no. A sewing machine goes zzzz zzzz zzzzz or like she is talking. She's not speaking smoothly. She sounds like a sewing machine. I can't explain it better.
