My partner and I have a store on eBay. His forte is scouring flea markets and tag sales, focusing on sports memorabilia. I’m in charge of taking photos and listing our inventory. What began as a lark has become a rather steady source of extra income. Advantages? Work from home, make your own hours, be your own boss. Disadvantage? Finding space in our small apartment for our growing inventory! 😀 I’ve learned a lot about pricing and dealing with customers. Even if only to sell some of the treasures that are cluttering your own home, Ebay might be something to try!

I noticed your Aging Gracefully card up on your shelf. What a great idea to highlight one particular card! I thought you might mention the message on the card. We are so fortunate to be in a time when we can create our own work in our sixties (plus). We don’t need to be dependent on a traditional job or an employer. Your point about that extra $500 per month was a real eye opener. I continue to work in my consulting and executive coaching business. But I am changing “how” I work. I am taking my business online and providing online courses for women returning to work after cancer treatment and for women who continue to work after sixty. Technology and the knowledge-based economy has made this possible and desirable. Also, there is an “encyclopedia of jobs you can do on the road” which may be dated, but, for example, there are retired couples who drive trucks long distance. The truck cabs are like a little home on the road and can even accommodate their pets. Not my cup-of-tea, but the vagabond working lifestyle is appealing.

8:44. No, they don't want seniors in the spa/massage therapist world. Age discrimination is BRUTAL in this field. Take it from someone who knows.
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, thank you for mentioning that ageism is alive and well in America. Most employers are looking for young workers. I think they're afraid the older workers might more frequently get hurt on the job or sick. It's like, no one wants to buy an old car and no one wants to hire an older worker in case their "parts" are getting ready to go. My school district appreciates me and I appreciate them. The best thing in our time of life is to be your own boss, if possible.

I desire more part time work. What I currently do is sell items on ebay, I've done that for years it does take a lot of time but sometimes I can make pretty good money. I have sold items for others on a commission basis. What is popular on ebay seems to change so I wish I knew the magic formula for that but I don't. I also work part time as a free lancer for two playhouse theaters. I help the main wig designer by washing the wigs and other related functions to maintaining the wigs for the performers. I like this job but it is not consistent, each theater runs on a different schedule and I do not always have work. I find it very challenging to make extra money at this stage of my life.

Hi Margaret. I love your channel. I had the retirement blues so I applied to do sub work for my school district. I sub for teachers aides who can't make it in to work on any given day. I love it because I choose the hours I work and the pay is great, especially if you have a college degree. The school district always needs help, so there's never any shortage of work. I work in my town, so the driving is minimal. It's perfect for me. I got me feeling productive again. I use the extra money to have fun. Cheers!

So far in three years retired I have tried eBay vintage item sales, upwork marketing (used to do some web marketing at my job), house flipping, KZbin and food delivery. First was too detailed for me, second was too competitive, third was too hard (lost big money) and fourth was a flop and fifth too physically taxing. Right now I've taken that plant idea and am raising coop ready egg laying chickens and selling eggs to neighbors with my partner. So far my favorite retirement job. My partner volunteers at an acupuncture clinic non profit in exchange for free treatments. I am still looking for more to do however.

Thank you for this. FYI a senior might be able to volunteer in a National Park, however, NPS Rangers go through extensive training. They must attend the ranger academy through the NPS. The jobs are highly competitive. They require a degree in a related field, parks experience, plus the academy at a minimum. Most rangers start young. My son is in that process. So, ranger jobs for seniors are not an option if you haven't already been in that field.

You can borrow enough to make repairs, hire caregivers and supplement your SS. It is more advantages the older you are. 80yrs old and up and inning your home free and clear. The bad part is there's a $30k processing fee and if you have to go into a nursing home, the bank wants the home. If you have no heirs it might be a good choice.

I really enjoyed your video...I been looking into being a DOG Groomer...I am spending a small fortune getting the nails trimmed for my 3 little chihuahuas ...the nails grow so fast...My Vet charges $28 for each dog...Yikes!! and the grooming shop charges $12 but I don't think they do a very good job and cut them short enough. Anyway, thought I would drop you a line and say hello...Cindy Smith (age 68)...grandmother...Central Florida...USA.

I love the library but I don't have a degree. Thank you

There are different levels of education required for people who work at a library. Yes, you have to have a degree or two to be a librarian, but not to shelve and check out books and other things that need to be done that do not require a professional. Last time I went to our library, there was a part-time job opening that required only a high school diploma. I am still working full-time, but that gave me an idea for a job to check into once I am retired. I have always LOVED libraries and have gone to them since I was five years old.
