Seth Feider takes the guesswork out of choosing the best lures for smallmouth bass fishing from late summer through late fall. This comprehensive seasonal progression video breaks the fall period into distinct water temperature ranges; Feider then tells us what baits work best during each window based on years of hunting big bass on Minnesota's famed Mille Lacs and other productive Great Lakes region fisheries. His lure selection is narrowed down to the following categories.
Watch the full video to know when to put each of these baits to work with maximum effectiveness.

I do more river fishing for smallies than chasing them in lakes up here in Maine but definitely hit some cold water temps (am usually after them the first few days of April). Ned rig is the #1 (pb&j finesse trd is particularly money) but football jigs with craw trailer, drop shot rigs and even chatterbaits have all caught me dozens of smallies that time of year.

there were two key words in your presentation: #1: "Down South".....fishing in other parts of the country can be completely different! and #2: "it's all relative": it sure is: I am here in the North East, and with 70 degree water, we are already catching smallmouth in 30-40 feet of water with Blade Baits.......so, there is no doubt that water temperature is a big factor in fishing and it was great of you to point it out, but again, habitats change, and geography has it's own tendencies, and for that matter, the type of water, because impoundments can also fish completely different from natural lakes. But if there is one constant in the world of bass fishing, it is the old mantra " Location, location, location" and here in the NE, when it comes to smallmouth, that is absolutely the number one prerequisite, because, although water temps might dictate at what depth they might be hanging out on certain structural changes, if you don't FIND the important structural changes, you do not catch smallies where we are, regardless of what lure you are using at the time.

Great advice...Being from Australia I had to go out and buy a duel thermometer as we read temps in Celsius and not Fahrenheit...It's amazing how differing fish species throughout the world respond to differing techniques in cold water...Seth Fielders technique information works just as well all the way down here in the land down under as it does on his "Home" waters... I must say though he has no worries about joining the " Bogan " ranks,with him playing with his hair all the time...grin... Despite what you were told Seth a Bogan in Australia is the same as a Moonshine drinking "Good Ol Boy" you have in the States...Not all of us Bogans have missing teeth either but mullet haircuts reign!!! Regards from Down Under... B.J.sCustom Baits Australia....

Appreciate you taking the time to watch. We've always been very intrigued about the fishing opportunities in Russia. So much land and remote water resources. Big pike, beluga sturgeon, and the varied salmon species of Russia's eastern range.
@neumexa6832
@neumexa6832 3 жыл бұрын
@@Wired2Fish Catching beluga in Russia is prohibited by law. This is possible only on private reservoirs, but it is not often found in them. Usually private reservoirs are stocked with trout and carp, subsequently selling day fishing licenses. The large pike is the main object of fishing history in Russia. And a coveted trophy that doesn't come across often. In our country, the most popular fishing tournament is called the League of Professional Fishermen ( Pro Anglers League, PAL). In the first leg this year, one of the crews caught a 27.7 lb pike. This is the largest fish of this tournament in several years. The tournament takes place on several large reservoirs of central Russia. Larger 40+ pounds of pike can sometimes be found in remote areas.

So when he says 60° water temp, is that 60° on the fish finder temp probe? I ask because obviously surface temp is different than the water temp the fish may be in.

@Wired2Fish 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking Randy. This video is aimed at all northern-tier states, not MN specifically. That said, MN law reads this: "Alabama (Umbrella/Yumbrella) rig is legal if not more than one hook or artificial lure/bait is attached. An angler could place a single bait/lure with a hook on one of the wires and attach hookless spinners or plastic baits to the other wires." Good fishing to you.
