We have some friends that cruise all the time. They take quite a few back-to-back short cruises. They are gone right now on one. They will take a 5-day cruise and then a 4-day cruise on the same ship. They try to book it far enough ahead where they can even get the same room. They don't even have to pack up all their stuff if they have the same room. She said they have to get off the ship and then they turn around and walk back on and activate their new cards. Basically they are now on a 9-day cruise.

Yes, it's a fun way to extend a cruise. The walk-off/ turn around is smooth; we had the Diamond Concierge escort us the whole way. My sister and I did book months ahead to be sure and get the same cabin. I would do it again.

I am willing to pay a premium for the ship within a ship, if it provides expedited services - embarkation, debarkation, room service, drinks, food and entertainment. I don’t like fighting crowds or lines, but once I’m where I want to be and have what I want, I don’t mind being in the middle of the party crowd. I also typically don’t mind kids and families, but when parents aren’t engaged and the kids are screaming, crying or splashing in the hot tub, it’s no longer fun for me. As such, I like an adults only pool and hot tub - so I will pay for that too. I know this makes me sound old and crotchety, but, it’s my vacation and I work too hard to not have what I want. I just consider the extra costs as the “insurance package” to ensure I have a good time. If it means I cruise less, I’m okay with that.

My wife and I like the Haven on NCL. We often will look at short sailing dates. Now we are looking for Haven suites and are much cheaper closer you get to sailing date. We start looking after the final payment dates. Down side is you get the leftover rooms and have to pay for it when you book it. Rooms are not the one I would pick, but the cost savings of 3-4 thousand for a 7 day cruise makes up for it.

Yes! I love cruising on Utopia and introducing cruising to those who are leery with a short cruise on a megaship! I have said for the last 10 years that that is what was missing. Plus if you have animals and don't want to leave them that long or are taking care of elderly parents, it's perfect for a getaway. In addition, if I want to try the suite class it is much more affordable than doing a 7 nighter. So happy Royal listened to that trend!

Another comment I have is about ships leaving from the North eastern United States. I tried an RCI Cruise out of New Jersey about 10 years ago. What I found was that it took about three rays of travelling on the way down to get warm and another three on the way back that became cooler and cooler as we reached New Jersey. Because I live in Canada I really like having a very warm start to my cruise and it for it to continue to be warm until I get back to the southern cruise board. So I will not be taking any cruises that leave from northern eastern US again. Although I can understand for those that live there, it is very convenient because they can drive.

As a fellow Canadian in Ontario, we always take a 7 day or longer cruise. Travel to the airport, and flying in to port city a day prior is tiring in itself. This year we were in West Palm Beach for 6 weeks and decided to do a last minute, 4 night cruise on Celebrity out of Fort Lauderdale. It was an easy 45 minute drive to the port, park in a parking garage and on the ship 90 minutes later. Loved the cruise. On disembarkation day we were off the ship and back to our place in West Palm by 9am. Short cruising is definitely fun if you live close to a port.

We were hooked, and nothing less than 7 nights since. That is, until this cruise. We are leaving southern Utah today and driving to Port Canaveral for a 7 night on RCCL Wonder of the Seas departing next Sunday. Since we were going to be over there, we decided to do a pseudo back-to-back. We return on Sunday on the Wonder, then we're leaving Monday on a 5 day on Utopia. Get to see a different ship, different ports, and 2x to Cocoa Cay. We wouldn't travel that far for just a 5 day cruise. I know we're driving distance to the California ports and even Galveston, but you can only do so much Mexico!

Ilana, short cruises have never been my thing, simply because I love getting on the ship, falling into relaxation mode, and before you know it, the cruise will be over. Cruising takes me away from the real world, and I crave numerous ports, activities and multiple days of 7 to 10, to make it a memorable vacation. Plus meeting new people and having interesting experiences with them, make it more worthwhile on longer voyages.

Also people commenting that the yacht club is a little more expensive, that's an understatement. It's literally thousands more when I booked the balcony room for us four adults it's 2200 down to $2,000 with my son's military discount. The yacht club was going to be over $9,000. Thanks, Ilana. Early in my cruise "career" We did one short cruise and i realized that it definitely was not for us. It was by far my least favorite cruise. The benefits of cruising don't get realized (getting in the zone, visiting several places while only unpacking once, knowing some crew, various entertainment) while the downsides remain (lengthy boarding process, luggage and customs, traveling to port) ... Seven nights has been our mini ever since.
@mattgriffith611617 күн бұрын
Have you ever thought of a short cruise, but do it back to back to see the difference between a 3 and 4 night cruise? Then your flight would be more reasonable for a week. And you could probably work to keep the same room for both times so you don't have to unpack in the middle. You could compare the weekend crowd with the weekday crowd. Just a thought.

We went on a shorter cruise (5 days) last year, on the Carnival Elation. Yeah, it's a smaller, older ship, but still very well kept up and we had a BLAST. For me to get away for the typical 7 day cruise isn't always easy. Once a year is about all I can swing, but that 5 day cruise fit perfect into my schedule. We'd definitely go again.
@howardgutman698313 күн бұрын
Wanted to make some suggestions about excursions. Frequently the ones you plan are better and more economical than the ship's for several reasons. You can arrange for several places you like, avoid a bad stop taking up your day, leave the ship quicker, and get a lunch at a fine restaurant instead of a group lunch. If a vendor has multiple good reviews and speaks your language, things are usually fine. We worry about outside entities because missing the return could leave your stranded. Here, think of different scenarios. If your next stop is in the same country your downside risk is far less, with maybe a cost of a taxi or train to the next port.

Royal Caribbean teased about building a new smaller class of ships, to replace their smaller aging fleet, but seem to have tabled that. Not everyone wants to sail the mega ships, due to the enormous passenger size, but also that many exciting ports cannot accomodate them. The problem is, cruise lines are not listening to the cruising public. They think one size fits all.
@krlost440513 күн бұрын
@@meddyven economy of scale. I doubt they "don't listen". Is about who speaks louder and costs are speaking louder than what the market can or is willing to pay. Just like container ships that are getting bigger and bigger, the same goes for passenger ships. It is cheaper to operate bigger ships compared to smaller ships. For luxury lines, probably they don't have issue scaling down for customers that don't mind paying more. I cannot say the same for the average income market wanting more exclusive and less congested experiences.

Thanks so much for all the tips, news updates etc! For us, we have to travel from Nova Scotia so the longer cruises are what we book. Two weeks minimum. GRAMMY G from Nova Scotia! Happy cruising! 🛳️🌴🏝️🏖️😎

Since winning a bid on a ship within a ship we won’t go back to normal sailing, lol. We love the NCL Haven experience. Well worth the extra cost!

Short cruises are great if you live close to a cruise port. I'm in Texas, and only about 4 hours from Galveston, so a quick long weekend getaway is very appealing! I wouldn't do a short sailing if I had to fly into a port city or drive for a full day

I recently sailed on a Norwegian cruise line vessel that stopped at the private island, great stirrup key. I did an excursion on a kayak, and we visited a portion of the private island that only the kayak tour goes to. The guide told us that Norwegian has plans to develop that part of the island in the next few years and the initial plans are for it to be some sort of an amusement park. Apparently, right now the focus is building the dock and other infrastructure and the current portion of the island that’s used, but there are plans to develop other parts of the island which is actually very large compared to the Royal Caribbean Coco cay Island, which neigbors the NCL island but which is almost completely built out.

Went on my first cruise last June and have fallen in love!! Going in my second soon for my 70th birthday. I would love to see more about cruise deals and anything you have about sailing from Galveston or New Orleans. It is a long drive from Missouri to Florida so would love to use a closer port.

My wife and I did NCL’s Haven a few months back and just booked a cruise in the MSC Yacht Club. It’s definitely an experience and if you can afford it I recommend trying it out. I felt the two biggest benefits were priority everything, no waiting in lines or worrying if you’ll get access to something you’re looking forward to and a very comfortable private area to get away from the crowds. The Haven restaurant also had the best food on the ship, I’d say better than the specialty restaurants. I’m curious now how the Yacht Club will compare.

I just took our whole family (17 people) on Harmony of the Seas. ‘First cruise for most. I decided not to “cut corners” and had several Specialty Dinners for those who wanted them. They actually don’t make sense since great dinners are already included but they liked the times for their “private” dinners.

Viking, virgin, explora and celebrity retreat. You hardly mention these. Way better experience for the price. These products have always been the norm for their companies.

Hi Ilana, I love watching your videos. I think your presentation is really good and you make issues that may occur not a big deal which I appreciate. I’m not lucky enough to be able to fly but I feel I’m there with you - so thank you. I’ve been on a few cruises, mainly from Southampton which isn’t too far away from where I live but I always check your videos in case you review one of the cruise lines I want to sail with for tips and hacks 🙂💖💖

Another great video,thanks!! I have done 3,4,7,9,12, and one 7-night back to back (14 days total, same ship, same cabin). My preference is a longer cruise; however, the 3 and 4 night cruises really fit our budget at the time. It also helped that we could drive to the LA port and get a hotel cruise package ( San Pedro) the night before that included the room, breakfast, parking, and shuttle to and from the pier. I do have planned a 15-16 day RT Hawaii (Princess) cruise from San Francisco in April 2026 and am really looking forward to that with my sister & niece. We splurged on a Reserve Mini-Suite that will add some nice extras to this longer cruise. We also booked a hotel package through our travel agent so that we will have Princess transfers from airport to hotel, a night at the hotel, and then transport to the pier. If I did another short cruise I don't think I would go for less than 4 nights.

We are sailing on Utopia and Icon this spring, we are doing “Side-to-side” cruises- since we have to fly to Florida. Then maybe we will be done with the mega ships. Yes, would love to see cruise deals! 🚢

I live in New Mexico, so ports close to home is not an option. That’s okay as I’ve been able to fly to 20 US and International ports to cruise. My closest, Galveston Texas has been expanding, adding ships and cruise lines over the past few years. I will be on the first Galveston cruise of the MSC Seascape this coming winter. I’m doing more Northern cruises too lately such as Scandinavia, Alaska, and NE Canada. They have definitely been popular. The Princess bundle with gratuities, drinks, Internet etc. is a good idea.

We've done a 4- day and a 5-day before, with a few days exploring the port for each. We live on Missouri, so flying is usually a necessary added expense. However, we have a 5-day scheduled in November out of Galveston, so we're driving and checking out sights along the way.

Cruises in 2025 cost much higher than previous year and the cost of a Princess Alaska cruise in May 2025 trend much higher for balcony or deluxe balcony by a good margin. A video on saving money on a cruise is a great idea... Thanks

When I lived in California, some work friends and I would take a 3-4 night cruise to Mexico frequently. If you can split the cost and live in the area, and don't mind rooming with friends, it is a very economical way to have a sort of mini vacation.

We did a 3/2 on Margaritaville a couple of years ago, only because it was part of a Land/Sea vacation package. We really enjoyed ourselves. We had even more fun on debarkation day jumping off the ship in Ft Lauderdale, collecting our car, then racing south to Miami where we embarked on the MSC Seascape for a two week back to back of the western then eastern Caribbean. We wouldn't do a 3 or 4 day cruise by itself, because the travel time to get there is just too long.

I’d love to see a video on how to get the best deals. I’m intrigued about the ship within a ship concept. I booked a Yacht Club Deluxe Balcony cabin on MSC Seashore after watching your review of Yacht Club on Seascape and am excited to try that out. We are also booked in Yacht Club on MSC Euribia in United Arab Emirates out of Dubai in 2026. We were going to do Aurea class but went to Yacht Club after your video 😂 I’ll let you know what we think and how the 2 compare after we travel! Thanks for all you do for us, Illana! I’m sad about Half Moon Cay, as currently the northern side of the beach is very quiet, but once the big Carnival ships show up, that will be gone, and there will be at least twice as many people on that beach in general. Bummer. It’s the only cruise line island that I actually like.

A video discussing how to find deals would be very beneficial. I have started my cruise essentials kit for my Alaska cruise as well as hopefully future cruises from your videos detailing the essentials to bring to maximize the enjoyment of our cruise experience. Cross your fingers he likes our Alaska cruise..🤞. Love all your videos and especially appreciate the 101 series. Thank you!!!!

Norway is planning to cancel cruises that are NOT completely electric really soon. Cruise lines are obviously pushing back, but Norway is concerned at the environmental impact of cruise ships in the fjords. Even the supposedly greener ships that explora use fall short of Norway’s standards. It could be that many are flocking to the fjords because it may not be an option later.

I would appreciate money saving videos on ways to save money when planning a cruise. Like you, I live quite a distance away from the cruise ports, so I prefer to fly. To make cruising more worthwhile, I usually look for and book the longer 7 to 8 day cruises. The shorter cruises are just a "tease" !!

Can't wait to go on Icon of the Seas this September coming soon. This vacation will make up for what happened to myself and my family last year. Travel insurance really saved our butts last years. Between my uncle caught the new COVID while in Jamaica, delayed our flight from Detroit, missed our flight going home from Detroit to Cleveland, didn't get the notification about our flight till we got to Detroit airport, our flight was already booked for next day instead of catching last flight that night, stayed at nice hotel inside the airport but the food and drinks were pricey. I was also happy the flight company paid the hotel and meals. I'm blessed my uncle and auntie made it back to the ship just in time before it left. Lucky there was special medicine that my uncle had to take every morning to get better. What really nice was our head waiter from Freedom of the Seas, he was so worried about them and he will prepared their meals for them when we leave the main dinner room. With my nurse skills she'll check on him. This year our cruise trip will be even better then last year.

Hi Ilana, thanks for the videos. We often take 4-day cruises out of Orlando. It works for us because we live in Atlanta, so drive not too bad. We find that 7-day are sometimes a bit long and we're getting tired of the ship by the end. We like to go down to Orlando and stay at area resorts for a day or two before and after the cruise. Best of both worlds.
