Thanks for all those details and sharing with us. Here is my experience with my 350h in 2.5 months so far. When I got the car it was beginning to get colder, so I didn't use AC or heating in almost the first 2 weeks. To test the fuel economy, I have been driving it unbelievably gently and slowly that it sometimes drives other drivers crazy. The best fuel consumption I got at the beginning was around 6.5 L/K. With very little heating on , these days I can get 7 L/K at best. Just note that I am not using the car's computer to estimate fuel economy as they are inaccurate. I calculate that myself based on the actual gas consumption. I guess it is close to impossible to get around 6 L/k as claimed. All my driving is in the city.
@lsft Жыл бұрын
When it gets cold most cars need more engine to heat the cabin. Keep in mind the fuel economy is measured at best case scenario. You'll need to wait for the engine to break-in to get better economy as well. I'm still waiting for my 450h to really break in as i don't use the gas engine as much.

Great videos! In winter temps …Do you notice when in EVmode your engine runs often ? The only way I can get the vehicle to keep in ev is setting the cabin temp to 18 degrees or lower or just simply shutting off climate (but that’s not ideal) I’m in Alberta and temps are -20.
@lsft Жыл бұрын
Yes, even in EV mode, the heat pump is not efficient enough once it goes under -10℃ and would require the gas engine to quickly warm up the vehicle. The temperatures in Alberta for sure would cause the gas engine to run more often. I noticed that if I don't run the front defogger, the gas engine will not kick in, but once it goes under -10, it will run more often. Keep in mind this is a PHEV and not a pure EV. Expect winter months to use the engine and more gas, while in the spring, summer, fall months this shouldn't be a problem. You still save a lot more gas over the 350h.

Which is better on snow (2 to 4 inches), NX 350 or RX 350? Also, how do the hybrids run on snow?
@lsft Жыл бұрын
Both would be the same. Majority of the powertrain and system are the same. Just a larger vehicle (heavier on the RX) might have a bigger advantage, but the smaller size of the NX could also be an advantage too. More nimble. The hybrids in snow are good. Don't really feel that much of a difference.

Hey do you recommend to use up all the gas and fuel the tank every 3 months? If so how much gas do you purchase each time? Do you fill the tank completely? If I want I can always use EV mode and leave the gas untouched for maybe 6 months or more cause I don’t drive long distance, and I am not sure if that is safe or recommended.. Thanks in advance
@lsft Жыл бұрын
The 3 month guideline is what I am following myself. Gasoline will go stale over time and it could hurt your gas engine and may cause issues if you don't use it for a long period of time. Since the cost of filling up is not too much, I set to use a tank every 3 months. If you cannot use up a full tank, you can fill up only half a tank and use the half tank every 3 months. That way your car will be lighter and would be better for the EV range as well. In the winter, if you are using the front defogger, you may use the gas a lot more than other scenarios. So it depends on where you live and how cold it gets in the winter months. According to Lexus you only need to fill in 20L of fuel in a year, but you may want to play it safe. You don't want issues of the gasoline causing issues with the gas engine. A fill up every 3 months is not a lot of extra cost. But replacing or repairing the gas engine would be a lot more expensive and the car won't be as good as original at that time. Hope this helps.

Hey LSFT, what’s the best way to break in the engine? Would you recommend driving hybrid for the first several months, or exclusively use engine (via charge)? You mention doing so would improve fuel economy. Thanks!
@lsft Жыл бұрын
If you are looking at running the engine, you should use hybrid mode. Charge mode is not as efficient. Using hybrid mode will operate the engine at less load and you'll get your money's worth of gasoline usage.

Hi, a quick question: what is the highest amount of liters of petrol you have been able to put in the car so far? I am asking for the following reason: there are some car journalists that were never able to put more than 40l in whist the car was nearly empty. So one of them expressed the doubt that the fuel tank contains 55l.......any thoughts? Thanks!
@lsft Жыл бұрын
Last fill-up I had 3/8 of a tank with 232km distance to empty. I filled 32.8L. So based on 3/8, it means 52.48L as a tank. Hopefully my next to fill up will be more when i use more gas in the winter months.

Thanks LSFT and have a wonderful New Year. If Lexus condescends to manufacture my order of January 2022, I will be full bottle on the car. How much control do you have over home charging? I will be able to charge at the car’s capacity of 6kWh with my 512V 3 phase system. However, I will only want to charge using solar PV. Of course, that varies during the day and Enphase has delayed their AC battery supply to Australia so I am limited to my exisiting batteries that are not enough. This year we produced 14.8mW, used 6.3mW, imported 2.6mW and exported 10.3mW to the grid for which we are paid a paltry A$0.05/fWh. Electricity costs us A$0.29/kWh from our supplier. Our daily home energy cost is A$1.10 for the last 1645 days. Can I set the car to use only solar or does the control need to come from the Enphase system? By the way, we rarely need to heat the car but we find with our home A/C that heating is a lot less expensive than cooling. We would never drive without the A/C on auto. Keep up the good work.
@lsft Жыл бұрын
On the car, you can only control what time and the current rate the vehicle can charge at. 8A or 16A. The 16A is only available if you have the 6.6kWh charger option. It's interesting cos the summer months I'm able to get more km in than in the cold winter. I think some of it is related to the battery temperature.
@stewartpenny Жыл бұрын
I have heard that some EV batteries are heated and cooled. Perhaps your extreme temperatures work against you in both summer and winter. By comparison, our range is around 15-33ºC. As I approach my BMW, I press and hold the unlock key and all the windows open. This allows the hot air to flush from the car before entering. Is it similar on the Lexus?

Is your car sitting in the garage for too long and you are not driving it a lot?
