Try washing your hair with distilled water. I have done that and my hair is like silk. I buy the gallon jugs from the grocery store. It's worth it to me for the expense.

I have a 1liter bottle that i fill with distilled water to rinse out the hard water from my hair after a shower. It really helps with the waxy buildup one gets from hard water

+Faye Allchurch - I've been doing rye flour for almost 2 1/2 years. I have hard water too so knowing that hard water always kills hair and learning that no poo doesn't work with hard water I was determined to just avoid using my water and the only solution I found was distilled. I have to buy it in plastic bottles tho so that really sucks, but I think at the end of the day getting off the commercial hair products bandwagon is worth whatever we have to do. It should be said though that there's no such thing as a "natural made from plants" shampoo. Any product you buy is going to be just that - another product like all the other million products that we've all tried before and got us nowhere. THAT'S what I love about the rye flour - it's the only thing that's ever gotten me off of hair products entirely and helped me stop the madness. So while my hair is not as shiny and nice looking as yours, like you is the best thing I've found. I'm not using my hard water but I have that residue you mentioned - hence how I found your videos. So it's clearly not coming from the mineral deposits. Second, I wanted to mention to you that I don't add alot of warm water to my rye flour. I use only a teaspoon or two of flour and just enough water to make a thick paste. The water in the hair will thin it out and since the main goal is to scrub the scalp, it shouldn't be necessary to make a watery mixture, but it bears mentioning that I don't have a lot of hair, it's thin but long (to the small of my back). I wash my hair over the bathtub into a bucket - and that cured my messy bathtub woes. When I'm done rinsing my hair I just grab the bucket, give her a swish and flush it down the toilet. I rinse the bucket but I only use it for hair washing (really the bucket is just catching the water and rye "shampoo". The bucket truly saves my life because it eliminated all the cleanup, so I really recommend it. It's not huge - maybe 3 gallons? I only use a liter of distilled water so there's only about an inch or two of water in the bottom of the bucket. Hope that helps. I'm intrigued by the rice water so may give that a try. If you figure out what's causing the residue, please let me know - I'd be forever in your debt. :) Thanks for sharing your journey. And chin up - your hair looks lovely.

Distelled water...when finish the shower with only water, use distilled water in a spray box and put it till your hair is wet and the salp too...to remove the minelars and calcarium from it...dot it one or two times and them dry with towel, softly, and it dry naturally...

Thank you for very honest and relaxed video on your no poo journey. I have just started mine mainly out of care for the environment. I have naturally greasy hair so I am expecting that my hair will just be on slimy mess before very long. I have never used many hair products on my hair other than shampoo & conditioner and I love that freshly washed look, but I am determined to give no poo a try. I have no intention of ever using flour, oats, baking soda and such like on my hair though I may rinse with home made herbal infusions. I am fortunate that the water here is soft. I should say that I think your hair looks lovely but I do think that short hair really suits you based on the photos you showed us. :)

Water-only! I have also noticed a significant decrease in split ends! I started to notice that by the end of week 4. I'm now on week 7. If you're interested, please join the Facebook group White Girl Hair Problems. ❤️

i forgot : if you need a shampoo bar, I have found one that is excellent even with hard water (and also without conditioner) : it is made in France, by "les savons de joya" - they have one for blonde hair - about 7 pounds but it lasts long

Citric acid and asorbic acid in a bucket to rinse your hair is supposed to help break down the mineral build-up on the hair, and the acids in the water make the water soft... I read today that crushed vitamin C tablets work,as well as Emergen C packets. Will be trying the packets tonight. The hard water struggle is real. My hair is like straw,no poo for over 5 years now. When I go to Europe,my hair is so shiny and soft . Here in the U.S: Frizzy, unmanageable, dull straw. So I am putting a lot of hope into these little packets!!

Hi. The emergency packets worked but made my hair sticky. So I got pure vitamin C powder and citric acid powder from Amazon and that works really well!

Hi Faye, try using egg for washing your hair. It gets rid of all oil and any residue in your hair. You can add some essential oil of your choice to get rid of the eggy smell. I have hard water and this works really well. Also it's all natural and costs nothing. I generally combine 2 yolk and a whole egg. Mix it with a little water, add the essential oil and use it.

jyotika badhwar thank you for your suggestion, I know that eggs are used quite a lot in home remedies and can work really well. However because I follow a vegan lifestyle I don't buy or use any animal products. Thank you anyway ☺💛

Apparently the "pure" shampoos don't work with hard water because only the "detergent" from commercial shampoos can get rid of the minerals. However, I haven't tried it myself, it's just something I've read. Anyway, I've gotta say I've only been doing no poo for three months but Ive got exactly the same problem. I feel the same way as you. I've been doing the water only thing and my hair looks like a slug went on a hike up my scalp :/ I've heard of people boiling their water and adding lemon juice or apple cider vinegar so I might give that a go. I also read that some people use rain water so if you've got somewhere to collect it (I've got a water container at my allotment) it might be worth a try. I've gotta say though that I started this thing hoping to minimise the washing routine, so all this sounds like a lot of hustle but I'm determined not to use shampoo anymore so I'll persevere:) Good luck! :)

Save your flour for bread making... We get hard water here from time to time, but that is when we run out of salt for the softener. I think it also must make a difference whether you have city water or well water. Ours is from our well.

Hello thank you for your interesting thoughts and experience. I have the same hair colour as yours, and I am trying no poo too. But with hard water (and even apple cider vinegar) I have the same problem of hair becoming "heavy", not really clean although my scalp is perfect. I have found that adding a bit of reetha powder to my nopoo helps a lot (it is a naturally foaming plant). And I add a little bit of my blonde henna with chamomile in my nopoo too. I also found that sidr powder is good too, it makes the hair perfectly soft. But the best thing I have found is distilled water, like the person who leaved a huge comment below. Another problem I have is that I do not want my blonde hair (henna coloured) to darken, but most ayurvedic shampoo plants do... If someone could help us, that would be great !

I think you have hair dysmorphia lol because your hair is so nice!! I say keep going :) I have super super hard water where I am as well. I do water only with bottled soft mineral water (check the label for calcium and magnesium content). I know it's bad for the environment, but I only need a pint glass each time (cold rinse after going to the gym, hot water 1nce a week for when I "wash" it), so actually a big bottle lasts a long time. I have noticed a massive difference in my hair!

...do you know what.......I have never thought about using bottled water LOL *face palm* What a brilliant idea! How have I not thought of that!?!🙈I may have to give that a go! I used distilled water once but it was a right faf having to wait 3 hours for my distiller to make it then having to wait for it to become cool enough to use. I am actually going to try bottled water. Thank youuuuu💛💚💙💜 and thank you for saying my hair is nice 😳😊 that was very kind of you x
