Incredible job. Thank you for sharing. I have a few newly planted hedges 1,2,3 years old and I cannot wait until they’re established enough to lay them

Wow - its really good to see how this hedge has regrown, and it looks great - really stockproof and very tightly packed. I have posted a link on the original film.

Is that really the same hedge from the video that you covered Harry

@@2CanChewBoo Yes it is.

In several old songs, they speak of jumping over the hedge. I always wondered why they did not just step through it. The answer is now quite obvious.

I watched your hedgelaying with Harry Rogers and was inspired to try it for fencing two fields on my farm in North Central New York State in the US. Do you know of anyone who has tried hedgelaying in the Northeastern United States? I believe it gets a lot colder here than in England. Thanks!

Freyda Black not sure about laid hedges in USA but courses are here in the UK , many local authorities do run hedge laying courses and they aren’t expensive to attend , week long or weekend courses are available, I have done one weekend course and a dry stone walling course and bothered were enjoyable interesting and a life long skill to learn

How different is this from hedging in the south of wales? Carmarthenshire.

Question - any 6-year or 8- year updates on this hedge?

Do you tuck the regrowth branches into the fence to continue solidifying the structure or do you just trim it back? I would like to try this type of fencing.

This looks amazing! And I suppose you could have a hazelnut harvest from it if you didn't cut it mid-season, right? Maybe cut it for winter to have it look tidy, though personally I kinda look the rugged wild look more. The lad in the first video said that hedge is good for 50 years. After that, can it be renewed again or do the hazels have to be cut down and new ones planted? I would assume it can be renewed a few times before the stems get too tall to make a good looking hedge, so you would cut them down a lot more, but that's just my guess.

It can go on fairly indefinitely - much longer than the plants would live for if they weren't laid and effectively restarted

Your best option is to get to the UK and join a traing session! Failing that you could buy www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I9Y8EHA which explains the detail. Of course nothing can be better than an expert showing and explaing what to do! The key thing is to have VERY VERY sharp tools, an axe needs to be able to slice through a sheet of paper! you can lay almost anything, and it will regrow an amazing rate, but only ever cut in the winter - never in the summer, so in the UK from September to March.
