The El Cortez exists as the oldest Las Vegas casino property Built in 1949 it was purchased by Jackie Gaughan in 1963. Michael Gaughan ( next generation ) would develop The Royal Inn The Barbary Coast, redeveloped as the Cosmopolitan a boutique hotel The Gold Coast ( off of Las Vegas Boulevard) and ultimately South. Point Casino. Between Steve Winn Micheal Gaughan and the Frias Brothers ( also known as the Station Brothers ) owners of the Station casinos, there was an upswing in the economy and job market that lasted from 1974 - early 2000's

He started going in early 1960s, he told me a story of when they stayed stayed at the sands hotel in 1967, his wife accidentally dropped her wallet at the slot machines, didn't realize it until after dinner. They went back to casino at sands and they searched the casino floor and where they gambled. Her wallet was on top of the machine she last played, what does that tell u. U do that no wallet be gone.
