9 steps to make your Harbor Freight Sand Blaster Awesome! When I bought this blaster, I hated it! It barely worked. Over the last few years, I have made 9 improvements that have made this Blaster Awesome! The 1st is to modify how you mound the glass. This makes it easier to change out the viewing window when it needs to be replaced. 2nd is to use plexiglass. I have started making a sandwich of plexiglass then glass, then plexiglass. I rotate the plexiglass to get a longer life out of the glass. I also replace the glass on a regular basis. The 3rd addition that improved the sand blaster is a venturi dust collector. This mounts to the sandblaster and a shop vacuum pulls suction through it. The dust conveniently falls into a 5-gallon bucket instead of the vacuum. It also helps make it easier to see inside the cabinet. 4th is upgrading the pickup tube to a metering valve. I then tuned the metering valve and added a water separator to the supply air. The 5th modification is to get rid of the pathetic light and add a much brighter light. Sixth on the list is to re-powder coat the inside of the blast cabinet to a brighter color. Now for change number 7. I swapped out the blasting media that I was using. It was a multi-grit media that caused clogs in the supply line. By switching to a single grit media, there are no more clogs, and it flows more consistently. While talking about the media, I assumed that a 40#t cabinet used 40#'s of media...Nope! I am now only using about 3 red solo cups of media. I top it off as necessary. The 9th and final mod would be to upgrade the gun to foot feed. This is supposed to flow much better than the "factory" trigger activated gun. As you will notice, I have not done this mode yet...But it will be getting done soon.
