What skills must a nanny have to work for the British royal family? Excellent self-defense and first aid skills, extreme driving, and good knowledge of psychology.
If you want to be a royal babysitter, loving kids is a good start, but it’s not enough. The British royal family demands that their nannies receive a prestigious education at none other than Norland College. This college was founded in 1892 by Emily Ward, and it provides exceptional childcare training. An enrollee should be in good physical condition, speak English very well, and have a perfect and unblemished background. Taking care of kids isn't the only thing girls can learn there.

SUMMARY:
- No student is allowed to take care of a real baby until she has shown her practical skills and high professionalism - while looking after an electronic baby.
- The list of a royal nanny's responsibilities is quite long, and protecting herself and the baby in case of an emergency is one of her primary tasks. The royal babysitter may look graceful, elegant, and feminine, but she will take immediate action in dangerous situations.
- A royal nanny has to be one of the best drivers out there. They are taught extreme driving at Norland College so that children will be completely safe with their nanny in any possible situation.
- Even though Prince William, the heir to the throne, and his gorgeous wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, could have hired many nannies to take care of their 3 beautiful kids, they have only one! Her name is Maria Borrallo.
- A royal nanny isn't perceived merely as a hired worker by the royal family. For them, she is another family member! She has to live in the palace (to be near the kids) and escort them everywhere during celebrations and traveling.
- You won't find a royal nanny on any social media. You won't read an interview with her in a magazine or see her dishing on her employers on TV either.
- Being violent to a child is wrong, whether you're a nanny or a parent, so it's no surprise that this rule made it onto the list. Norland College promises that none of its alumni will ever impose any corporal punishment on a child.
- Every child has a special place in their heart for their nanny. But no matter how amazing and incredible she is, she can never take the parents' place.

Nannies are hired discreetly through word of mouth. Between countries& families etc. Most are graduates, multi lingual, talented in the arts, lit. and known track record. They have discreet bodyguards whilst on duty outside. 6 figure fees normal for , say family where children gone away to 2nd school, requirements differ, So "current" nanny then very sought after, As the ALL IMPORTANT track record, trust n discretion proven. This can't be learned at a college. A career nanny even has an assistant nanny. No household cutes. Children come first! Discretion high priority n nicely remunerated. An established career nanny can name her price!

I had many a job as nanny when I was younger and had a great time! I worked for some very famous people who treated me extremely well. It was hard work but I got to go on wonderful holidays and see places that I would never have been able to afford to see at that stage of my life. Being a nanny is a great way to see and experience the world without the hassles of expenses. Accommodation (usually the best) and food (usually the best) all thrown in. I can thoroughly recommend the life as long as you choose your 'employers' wisely.

I worked as a nanny for a while when I was younger, and for me it was worth it. Living with the family you're working for also means that you have very negligible expenses. I had my own private apartement with shower inside their home (that I could lock, of course) and food was also provided (really good food too). The only thing I had to pay was my phone bill. So I practically could save 99 % of my earnings. And let me tell you, it was the best paid job I ever had.

I don't have contact with child caregivers but do have contact with caregivers for the elderly. The best don't have any problem finding their next job and it's probably the same for nannies at this level. In fact, they have people clamoring for their services and some have a lot of leverage in negotiating their benefits, salary, etc. You'd be surprised how much some can make. After all, you're not paying someone for a minor service but to care for a beloved family member. The best folks don't do it only for pay though, they genuinely care and you can see it. Some also receive inheritances and gifts upon their clients' deaths (talking about older people here).

It would actually be AMAZING! The self-defence they learn is more like a full on martial art, including what I like to call 'pram kata' in case someone accosts them while they've got a baby in the pram. It's some full on ninja bs where they have to keep a hand on the pram and keep it on the otherside of them at all times while fighting off the attacker. And they even do evasive driving so they can flee from the paps!

Norland graduates are always in high demand - mostly because they’re the best. They don’t just look after royal children, they’re also hired by Hollywood stars, rich business people etc. They even have to learn to make, from scratch, a lot of things kids need from clothes to food to toys. And I don’t mean using a sewing machine either - they have to hand sew stuff. Another fun fact: they are not permitted to eat any fast food or go in such restaurants whilst in their uniform.

Try being a nanny to quintuplets. My daughter was their night nanny with me starting at 16, then she continued as their day nanny until they started primary school, but nannied again while on summer holiday. She just got married and they are now ten and were attendants in her wedding. I’ve never seen someone so naturally gifted with children. Stern, but loving, and always industrious with them. She was even brave enough to take them swimming all at the same time! Though I would watch her every few seconds stop playing with one or the other and do a head count; her eyes continually roaming to make sure all her little chicks are well. It takes a certain skill set.

They will! We go to the same church and since the quintuplets were 10 months old, they come to "Lolly's" (their nickname for me) for extended weekends so mom and dad can get a break. I have been nanny / au pair for 25+ years to many elite families. I learned quickly what was and was not proper. The families privacy was priority. Who I associated with was closely watched. The ability to communicate, follow direction and think quickly when things do not go well is necessary. In one situation I had to keep my composure when the parents put me and my ward in a dangerous situation and I had to save both parent and child. In 25 + years I have seen it all.

Aracelli Piccio is a Filipino who was a nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry. I wonder if she was a graduate of that school. If not, she still was a great nanny to both princes that she became the only Filipino invited during Kate and William's wedding.

I am so thankful I raised my own children. They know who their own mother really is. We grew up with getting a spanking when we had it coming. There is a very big difference between abuse & a spanking. Sadly, there seems to be some people who are unable to tell the difference.

Cindy w I'm glad you were able to afford staying home. That is not possible for everyone, including myself. My baby will have to be cared for by someone else while my husband and I work. Also, the kids I've babysat for always knew their mother, so your comment confuses me. Lastly, I too was spanked and unfortunately developed mild anxiety from the experience.

I know there is actually a center which test a parent if they can handle a baby. But that was taken when a woman is already pregnant. There is also a baby doll that looks like a baby and weigh like a baby, maybe they could get that to practice their parenthood.

It was than all the off spring took suit with that honor and leadership . Do your research on the beginning of royalty .

@Lind Blair - that may be, but the video nevertheless was *not* of an English roundabout, as can be seen from the placement of the yield markings on the road - just another case of grabbing images/video clips that don't actually represent what the video is about.

Me and my siblings were spanked and no one could ever convince me it didn't help me because I see it did. I thank my parents all the time that they had clear boundaries with me and taught me respect for laws and rules. It taught me a lot of self control, how to be thankful and emotionally stablized me. All my 9 nieces and nephews are spanked and my kids will be spanked when they act up. Done right with loving bouderies its one of the best gifts you can give your child. I am not religious I just have lived the benefits. My mom used to say someone only received enough spankings when they are grateful for them when they grow up. All the people I have seen be grateful for their spankings have lived very good lives but those that complain about their spankings have bad lives, relationships and a low potential for happiness of their own doing. Spankings help you become the best version of yourself.

@@PhoenixRiviera I got to be honest with you I had to look after someone's children because I'm their Aunt. But hey, my nieces are so attached to me because I interact with them and I play and color with them. I had a 3 or 4 year old niece who is so attached to me and she doesn't interact with her mom because she rather spend time on watching her shows and going to bed. My niece is name is Syreneti. She's sweet and loving and caring. She would always watch princesses movies with her. She's not that attached to Meaghan who's my adopted sibling. Children who has been raised and looked after they can be emotionally attached to the person who spend time with them. That's what my nieces did.

I think it is sad that these kids will be raised by nannies and not by their parents. In reality these kids probably only spend a couple of hours a week with their parents and when they are 12 they will be sent off to boarding school. They will grow up seeing their parents as virtual strangers.
