I'm sure that part about the clan that turned to smoke or whatever also had something dumb about it, but I've mercifully managed to block the memory of that part of the filler, all I recall was that they lived in a cave because of their kekkei genkai they could die if a strong wind blew? So there you go, that clan should have died off long ago if that's how it worked. About the only believable parts about that filler arc were Itachi stuff and Kakashi after ANBU.

The reason why Obito doesn't suffer from the Mangekyo's side-effects is because half of his body is made from Hashirama's DNA. Because Hashirama's cells contain life force and healing abilities, it prevents Obito from suffering from blurry vision and blindness.
