I’m from Singapore. I went to university in Sydney, in 1961. I worked for a mining company & was transferred to live & work all over Australia. I have lived in Sydney. Melbourne, Brisbane & Launceston. I chose Brisbane to be my home because of the good weather as it’s not as cold as the cities in the southern states. We have a a smaller population than Sydney & Melbourne. We don’t have as many crimes as the big cities.

Forgot to mention the cyclones north of Brisbane which whip up torrential rain there. Brisbane is too south for wet season weather, but it’s too hilly and flooding happens there frequently, unless we’re in a El Niño period.

Brisbane's weather is pretty warm 6-7 months of the year, Winter's June July and August. Also speaking of renting, it depends on what you're after and what area you're intending on living, you can get a nice one bedroom unit for $300-350.

I live just about 40 kilometres north of Brisbane in the town of Caboolture just south of the Sunshine Coast. I worked as an operations manager with the Brisbane City Council for twenty years and have seen the amazing transition of the city over those years. It takes me less than an hour to get into the CBD of Brisbane or Brisbane airport and half an hour to Bribie Island where there are kilometres of beaches. Brisbane itself, doesn't have some of the attributes which may appeal to the younger generation in the same way as Sydney or Melbourne but being central to the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast makes up for that. The 'Tangalooma' resort on Moreton Island is a short ferry trip away for that 'sub-tropical island' day (or longer) away. Also, just north of Brisbane is the Redcliffe Peninsular which was originally considered as being the first settlement before Brisbane. Apart from being of historical interest, it is a very popular area for people to swim, fish and relax surrounded by the waters of Moreton Bay. It is also where the 'Bee Gees' went to school and there is a statue and a little place to commemorate them.

I live in Redcliffe, and visit family In Caboolture often, it’s a great suburb experiencing a lot of growth. (Govt has earmarked Caboolture as Brisbane’s next city, pumping so much money and infrastructure in there). Lot of development and gentrification happening. Compared to somewhere like Redbank Plains, or other suburbs in Ipswich, or some of the inner city suburbs, Caboolture feels far far nicer and safer. I honestly think I see less dodgy people up there than I do in Redcliffe…

I'm sorry, but I've lived in Brisbane for 25 years after relocating from interstate, and have lived in many suburbs: Those costs for renting are not accurate. The rental costs and price of living here is eye watering... the prices given I think are accurate for the very early 2000's. It's a lovely place, but the cost of housing is pricey whether you buy or rent. The heat is horribly hot in mid summer, and Brisbane is built on a flood plane, so is vulnerable to major flooding in many areas. In saying all of that, it has a lot to offer, and there can be fantastic quality of life here, especially for professionals and skilled people on an above average income.

hi I have a question 🥹 I plan on moving to australia from the USA, but when I mentioned it to my parents they said it was stupid because it’s a “super racist” place. What is it really like over there with all the diversity? Do people tend to be racist or is it mostly ignorance? Also what is it like getting a place to live before moving there (if that makes sense)? Like how would it work for migrants? Thank you so much for your videos, I’ve been watching them to get an idea of what I’ll face as I’m moving to/when I move to Australia. Love your content :))
@livingsimplyaustralia Жыл бұрын
Hi! The unfortunate reality is that some level of racism is prevalent across most countries worldwide (i.e. there are ignorant idiots everywhere). Having said that, I've found Australia (at least the big cities like Melb, Syd - can't speak for rural Australia) in general to be pretty open and inclusive to migrants (especially Melbourne). And this also in the workplace (professional environments at least), there is a lot of awareness about multiculturality, and any form of discriminatory behaviour can get you fired - and in social settings, comments or actions of this nature are pretty much frowned upon - especially considering that more than 30% of the Australian population were born overseas. Now, this has been my reality for the past eight years - but many other people will have different experiences and may completely disagree with me (which is fair - we are all exposed to different circumstances). The only thing that I did experience, which I don't think comes under the 'racism' umbrella but it's still aggressive behaviour, is perhaps some people making me feel a bit uncomfortable about my accent or how I pronounce certain words (not the 'aussie way'). Apart from that, it's been fine. So to answer your question, overall, no, I don't think Australia is 'super racist' (at least no more than America and other places). But again, other migrants may have had different experiences. Hope this answers your question in some way.
@becsutherland4506 Жыл бұрын
I’m Australian. It’s important that people coming here realise that we love to make fun of ourselves/others and we don’t like people who think they are better than anyone else. If someone is more reserved or conservative then it can be mistaken for ‘being up themselves’ or thinking they are better than everyone else. We don’t like people who are bragging and sometimes people from the USA can come across in this way such as being loud or rude to service staff. This will not go down well here. That said, of course there is racism because unfortunately it’s everywhere. I really hope that you have a terrific time if you do end up moving here. Best wishes.

It's as racist as any US city... no more, no less. Australia is a very culturally diverse nation.

@@becsutherland4506 if someone conservative doesn't mean he or she think better than anyone it just mean the person is introvert . I think everyone at any community around the world should mind their own business . @s41r Жыл бұрын
I'm a migrant myself. The worst "racism" I have experienced so far was when an elderly patient in the hospital told me to "go back where I came from." Otherwise, speaking from experience, racism here is much subtler, not like in America where they just shoot you if they don't like your skin color. I love Australia. I could have gone to migrate in the US but (I don't mean to offend any Americans) I find Aussies friendlier, kinder and TBH more respectful compared to Americans.
