It’s crazy that this old school classic from 20+ years ago has WAY more replayability and a HIGHER fun factor than all the 2K games combined, even if they have more features and bigger rosters. Even to this day, I’m still playing No Mercy, as I’m still creating many wrestlers, and the perfect polished AKI engine truly makes this one, just so much fun. What a game, and it’s such a shame we can’t get another game like this today.

I think if I remember correctly, No Mercy also allowed you to eliminate people in the royal rumble if you were in the final Four after you had already been eliminated. You would still be a part of the match on the outside, and you can pull one of the remaining opponents out of the ring through the bottom rope. It’s not technically an elimination based on the rules but the video game still counted it as one. I screwed plenty of my friends out of a royal rumble victory with that move.

One thing you're wrong about is that No Mercy actually only allows up to 40 participants in a rumble match, technically Survival does go up to 100 but that's a Singleplayer mode and only if you can manage it. Interestingly WWE Raw 2 on the Xbox allowed up to 64 in a rumble by default and with create a wrestlers allowed for up to 128 by far the largest amount in an official game. Either way the fact that they just removed the 40 man rumble is baffling especially considering The Greatest Royal Rumble happened in 2019 and had 50 participants, having up to 50 even would be a lot of fun in the 2k games since I feel these game have the most fun rumble match. One other thing No Mercy does is allowing you to turn on Pinfalls, Submissions and TKO for elimination in the rumbles. Sure it's never happened on TV but I like that feature because sometimes it makes things more tense and also helps eliminate someone who just won't go otherwise. In addition Raw 2 also allowed the player to go under the bottom rope in a rumble to use weapons without being eliminated, afaik that's also a feature no other game has done and it's kind of baffling considering we see people going under the bottom rope all the time in Rumbles.

Sometimes it seems like you can keep your data for months but then it gets deleted, which is so frustrating and annoying especially when you’ve spent countless hours creating CAWs and making progress in the Championship modes😢

I think all of us from that era...all we wanted was either a modern version of WWF No Mercy or Smackdown here comes the pain with updated creative mode features. I remember loving both of those games and just wanting a create a title feature like there was for WrestleMania 2000...but we never got a modern version of those games...they kept trying to reinvent the wheel.

AEW Fight Forever is the closest thing to No Mercy's gameplay today. It just lacks the wide variety of extra match types that No Mercy had, but it is getting several DLC updates in the future.

That’s why no mercy is still the undisputed king of wrestling video games no question. It’s got a HUGE appeal and fan base because it’s so great and it’s what wrestling in video game format was all about in one single cartridge. Want multiplayer mayhem? Play no mercy. Want to follow a wrestling storyline and become immersed in it? Play no mercy. Need hardcore wrestling matches in video game format? Play no mercy. There was NOTHING that this game COULD NOT do for wrestling and video game fans. It was the penultimate game and to this day it’s still the most hacked and modded wrestling game there is, but it’s 20 plus years old. There’s scant few games that can say they have a huge following and supreme replay ability in its original format but No Mercy can. It’s really up there with pac man, Mario and Mike Tyson’s punch out in terms of quality, replay ability and fan base. There’s NO MODERN 2K game with this same claim to fame or that big a following.

One niche feature in No Mercy that I don’t think has ever been replicated is the ability to “sell” or “play possum” by holding down the joystick when laying on the mat. I loved that for realism as well as strategy (ex. In a triple threat, taking a move and staying down to allow the other two opponents to focus on each other).

What is SUPER frustrating about #8 is that the game engine is more than capable of doing so. The fact that you can download a modded version of in game characters straight from CC with updated hair, tattoos, textures and even body shapes and have no issues during gameplay prove this. It's almost like they intentionally lock this so you play MyFaction which is why I'm no longer buying another WWE game ever again as long as this mode exists. Sadly, as long as parent company Take Two Interactive (whose greed is beyond EA/Activision Blizzard) holds the rights to publish WWE games, this won't happen.

If you know wrestling in its heydays and you know video games, you know that No Mercy will always be the GOAT because the gameplay and the time period can never be matched. HCTP was too unrealistically fast, the recovery speed killed creating great matches, and way too arcade-like to compete also.

The closest thing to No Mercy's gameplay today is Fight Forever. It has flaws, but man is the gameplay flow awesome vs a good opponent! AKI devs also worked on Fight Forever together with Yukes. In terms of gameplay "speed", I'd say Fight Forever is SLIGHTLY faster than No Mercy, but slower and more methodical than HCTP and Day of Reckoning. Fight Forever even has environmental attacks/physics and moves that No Mercy doesn't have, and more weapons than No Mercy. Obviously No Mercy has more modes and match types though. New Season Two DLC arriving for Fight Forever though! 🔥💯

The problem with HCTP, as good as it was, is that the power guys like Lesnar filled their meter way faster than say, a submission person. Or top rope moves (if I'm remembering correctly) would also boost you faster. So I could work the leg to setup my cloverleaf finisher...meanwhile you hit two top rope moves and a fallaway slam and your finisher was locked in.

Few things I liked about this game 1) the interactive storyline - the telltale kinda feature they had 2) roster - Not only huge, but crazy as well 3) Gameplay: for that time, the gameplay was so much ahead of it's time 4) Customisation options: I literally played as unmasked Kane much before he actually unmasked 5) backstage options: you can literally start the fight in the ring and take it anywhere No mercy is literally MDickies's Wrestling Empire with license

It’s the best wrestling video game of all time. It has an amazing roster, top gameplay, deep storyline, fun match types and a plethora of customization options. No Mercy has one fault and that’s the entrances. Oh and that’s only if you care about entrances. It’s better than any other wrestling game and that includes Smackdown Here Comes the Pain

Literally answered the question I had about the 2k games. No Mercy was awesome and still my favorite wrestling game I've ever played. Give me a story mode where I can use any Superstar (I use to use Chyna for the World Heavyweight Championship story) I want. Bring Championship Mode! Should be better to do now where you can go for multiple titles! Imagine having to defend two titles in one night and your stamina bar is low for the second match! Oh well just an idea. I feel like another thing that no mercy did better was the grapple system. Current 2k games really take you out of the fluidity of the game by starting a collar & elbow just to have that grapple released to have the move performed. No mercy's grappling system was seamless, each move flowed from the collar & elbow position. I personally preferred the grapple system in 2K19. I don't think collar & elbows are required throughout the entirety of wrestling matches
