As a performer I love hearing the audience scream. It pumps you up and ALWAYS makes you perform better. That's coming from Australia where the theatre is much more of a "formal night out" than on Broadway. Besides, you can hardly hear the audience on stage or in the auditorium anyway!

This was from the closing night, that's why there's so much screaming. Normally there wouldn't be anywhere near this much, but it's all par for the course on closings. It adds to the atmosphere of the night - it's a celebration. I highly doubt it would have been the first time seeing the show for anyone in that audience.

I dont care how many people Hate the screaming and think that it distracts the actors, but i would just like you all to watch the Video thats posted of the Tony awards Performance that they do and listen to the Audience when Dolly Parton and the cast enter... the whole Audience Goes up in screams And Yells.... And they are ALL Equity and professional performers, So just from my personal judgment... i don't think they would react like that if they didn't think it was appropriate in Live theatre

The TOUR was done AFTER the Broadway production by a different production team and completely re-imagined with Dolly having much more involvement. So, that's your differences and why Dolly wasn't in this version. Everyone is usually used to the first production they see of anything, so it's hard to see something different and be objective. But "amateur"?? Do you KNOW who these people ARE?? Clearly not!!

All this work and pure talent goes into these broadway shows and they don't ever film the show? I don't live in NYC so I'll just never be able to see this production? There's no official DVD or anything to make this show last in pop culture and give it the recognition it deserves? I am so confused.
@brrrrantarctica220010 жыл бұрын
I guess they figure if they released a DVD, people wouldn't want to spend over a hundred bucks seeing the production. Usually shows go on nation-wide tours, not with the same direction, musical numbers, etc.
@tiaqa9 жыл бұрын
+brrrrantarctica The issue is also that their liscence to perform the show will not include film rights - these will be very costly so unless it's a sure hit it wouldn't be worth doing

Guys. The performers are doing it FOR the audience. Plus they are hugely successful, well-known performers, they are supposed to get applause and cheers on their entrance! I'd be hard pressed to find a performer who wanted the audience to cheer less. The audience are why they are there. That's the whole point. I don't get what the big deal about cheering is. When we were at Drood and Chita came out we all screamed our heads off! And she loved it.

Yeah, what's the point of even going to a performance if you're going to scream over the actor's singing. It has nothing to do with appreciation for the actor--it's just the audience's way of showing that they recognize someone.
@irkenequine12 жыл бұрын
Gee, I sure do hate it when people show appreciation at a live performance because it distracts the fact that I"m illegally filming it...barf. I've seen dozens of shows on Broadway and on tour in person, and clapping and calling is part of the show experience and I'm SURE for the most part actors and actresses want feedback. Whining about it while you FILM it is bad form.

@HarringtonTribal8 жыл бұрын
Great question! I don't understand how this choreography fits the time period or the story. It's so disjointed with the music. AND! it's the same as Heights and Hamilton.
@firstnamelastname53318 жыл бұрын
I think that Deaf West Spring Awakening should've won the Tony, not Hamilton. The sign language was beautiful and a lot more fitting then the founding fathers sliding around the floor and walking places dramatically.
@HarringtonTribal8 жыл бұрын
Well - Spring Awakening wasn't even nominated for choreography (but probably should have.) Of the nominees - I think any of the others would have been a better choice. (Randy Skinner for Dames at Sea was my choice - only because I love the tap.) But Fiddler was awesome, considering they used new choreography and not the Jerome Robbins original. I didn't especially care for Savion's choreography for Shuffle Along, but I still liked it better than Hamilton. (Anyone reading - these are just personal OPINIONS! No need to get defensive. :-) )
@firstnamelastname53318 жыл бұрын
I know they weren't nominated. I think out of the nominees Fiddler should have won because the choreography was pretty good.

Um...NO. Its very distracting as an actor to have hooting and hollering during a show when its out of context. Just because you love a performer, it doesn't give you the right or the freedom to give obnoxious kudos during the middle of a song. Regardless if you're breaking the law and bootlegging a video.

@alphamikey7612 жыл бұрын
I love all these "as an actor" posts. Really for your community theatre?? Get real! There is a difference between entrance applause, being engaged and a 'fun audience" and "WOOOING" over the lyrics and dialogue because you recognize the actor and feel in the know. Most people had non idea who the F$%k Stephanie J Block and Megan Hilty were when this came out. SJB is not as well known as her wicked fans like to believe.
