I am much more offended by the rude, violent, narcissistic, obnoxious behavior seen on shows today, especially so-called "reality" shows. The 70's and 80's were silly, but harmless. Shows like All in the Family were actually wonderful because they broke barriers, while also being funny. Archie Bunker showed how people should NOT behave, and he always got his comeuppance.

I don't really find these shows offensive. What I do find offensive are the shows today which almost on a consistent basis show a woman as being the hero and the man as being a stupid person or a lowlife, almost never the other way around. Or the gratuitous violence against men which is supposed to be funny, or against white people. That is the definition of both sexism and racism.

Two of my all-time favorite TV lines came from those shows. One was Alf refusing to eat a salad because as he said: "That's not food, that's what food eats." The other was Peg asking Al if the dress she was wearing made her look fat. His response was perfect: "It's not the dress makes you look fat, it's the fat that makes you look fat." All in the Family was must-see TV in our household, the only show everyone in the family got behind. You couldn't make The Beverly Hillbillies today or Sanford and Son but both of those were classics. I loved it when Fred told Esther to shut up before he stuck her face in some dough and made gorilla cookies. That was when people had a sense of humor. We have become possibly the most humorless society in American history anyway. The Puritans even had a better sense of humor than today's humorless shmucks. We'd go a long way to fixing what ails us if we took the advice of the late great Sgt. Hulka: "Lighten up Francis."

All in the Family is still an awesome show. The whole crux was that Archie "Bunker" (Bunk=stupidity) was being mocked for being so bigoted and ignorant. He'd go off on these tangents while Mike, Gloria Edith and others would call him out for it. Remember how even Sammy Davis Jr gave it to Archie. After hearing his bigoted rantings, Davis gave him a kiss and had a picture taken of it!! Classic. All in the Family made you think, everyone talked about the episodes, even today. That's what I call good TV that resonates.

I grew up in this era and didn’t care for the silliness or focus on boobs and buns (as we used to say), of some of these shows. That’s an opinion however. My opinions didn’t result in the madness of this time where a person needs to be careful of the “landmines of destruction” strewn everywhere if you say or do anything that someone, somewhere deems inappropriate. There are those who think this thinking brings freedom. I say it does not. You will always disagree/have your feelings hurt somehow in this old world. Cancelling just makes everything worse. We used to have the freedom to like or dislike Archie Bunker or George and the way they behaved. Now we’re not allowed to think outside the box built for us, and anyone who tries otherwise gets erased/deleted. Not good!!

It featured many controversial subjects - sex, divorce, homosexuality, adultery, kidnapping, organized crime, war flashbacks, custody battles, racism, murder, amnesia/mental illness, alien abductions, etc. all hilariously touched upon, but it would never air on TV these days. It premiered when I was only 10 years old, but it was so funny & my top favorite, followed by TAXI (1978-1983), with another great ensemble cast that gave us such lovable characters such as Louie DePalma, Reverend Jim Ignatowski, & Latka Gravas - thankyouverymuch! 🤣

There are VERY OFFENSIVE shows of today, that should NEVER 👎 air. I was NEVER 👎 offended by all of yesteryear’s shows. Although there may have been some inappropriate subject matter, in a way, it never came out in pure form. It was more that what subject matter in these 1970’s was said, was more “under wraps”, or “tight lipped”. In other words, certain subject matter seemed to remain behind closed doors 🚪, like 👍 it should be. These old 1970’s shows were more primitive, and very enjoyable. If an inappropriate word, or sentence came out of somebody’s mouth 👄, it couldn’t have been one ☝️ word, or sentence for twenty following episodes that you don’t hear 👂 it at all. Also, no inappropriate scenes have ever been seen on these shows (I don’t think 🤔). Your friend, Jeff.

I watched all these as a kid and enjoyed them. In fact, they've inspired my own writings for a comic book that'll probably never be made, or at least not as a TV show. I don't know why networks are so concerned about what people say on Twitter; they hate watch it anyway, it won't affect the actual viewership.

C'mon--"Three's Company" was *written* to be a jiggle show (just like "Married... With Children," etc.). What's striking is the fact that all of these shows are also incredibly tame by many of today's standards.

I was born in '79 and grew up in the 80s and 90s, and I love the "old shows" (60s - 80s) best because of the nostalgia factor. I agree that many of these shows would not fly today because they're either plain outdated or for the "trigger factor" - but in regard to the latter, I say people need to lighten up. Especially when it comes to comedy, people need to have an open mind and just enjoy laughing!

“Three's Company,” and ''All in the Family,” were among a handful of successful American sitcoms based on British sitcoms. “All in the Family,” was based on “Till Death Do Us Part,” a British sitcom about a working-class bigot. ''Three's Company'' is based on the British sitcom ''Man About the House'' a sitcom about man sharing a London flat with two single women.

In Australia, after school in the 80s, the public broadcaster showed a British comedy called "The Kenny Everett Show." The title comedian did a bunch of skits, often in drag and with a lot of cheesy sexual innuendo. It was hilarious and kids (including me) loved it.

Krenny Everett was one of the biggest things on TV in the UK in the early 80s. It was brilliant but you'd never get away with the drag stuff today as it would offend the trans-gender community.

So let me get this straight...now shows that center around unmarried, pregnant teenagers and shows that display "real" people who are as dysfunctional as possible are fine but these older programs (that were actually funny and entertaining) are taboo. Proof that society now is certifiably nuts. 👍

Married With Children was a satirical take on the nuclear family. You have what should be the stereotypical family, but instead of being the perfect American model. They are rude, obnoxious, and crass instead of wholesome and kind. Plus you don't really sympathize with the newlywed couple either. They are annoying and pretentious instead of the usual wacky and helpful. It's sad that we can't satirize these things anymore without offending someone who knows how to get stuff cancelled

Love this video! You forgot Sanford and Son, Chico and the Man, and of course The Muppet Show. I grew up on these shows and they were awesome and my family always watched these shows. Hell...we were once Jehovah's Witnesses back in the day and before we went to the meetings we would eat dinner and watch the prime time shows The Jeffersons and or All in the Family before we headed out to our congregation meetings at 7pm. We never mentioned our tv entertainment because as JW's we were not allowed to watch that stuff but we did anyway. I guess we were spiritually weak in that damn cult we were once in. lol Damn glad we left. That's probably why my family doesn't get offended easily. Great shows in my eyes. Love them all. Good fun laughs and real. A++++ Thumbs UP and shared.
