Thanks for this. I’m broadcasting my college’s game tomorrow and it will be my first time, so I needed these tips.

That broadcast and subsequent ones have gone pretty well. I definitely still have work to do to improve though.@@Staatalent

Wow -- you made my day. Thank you for your gratitude and letting me know it was helpful. One tip that wasn't in the video is to make room for the pitch. A broadcaster talking too close to the ball hitting the catcher's glove risks immediately falling behind if the ball is put into play. Also, the sound of the pitch popping the glove helps put your audience inside the ballpark. This works on both radio and video.

Thank you for this video, broadcasting my first baseball/softball games this spring and I think this will be very helpful! :)

The fans are chanting, "Luuuuuuke!" Good luck on your upcoming broadcasts, Luke. One other tip: don't talk over the pitch. Make the sounds of the ball hitting the catcher's mitt, or the bat, be part of your broadcast. Also, there is a natural point of anticipation with each pitch. Don't dilute it by talking over it. Finally, if you are talking over a pitch, you'll be late in starting your description of balls put into play.

Thanks for this great video. I'm announcing slow pitch softball games but I think a lot of this applies. Much appreciated!

You're welcome, Joe. So glad it was helpful! Just remember that in softball, the pitchers work from "the circle" versus the mound. Good luck on your broadcasts today!

I’m calling my first college baseball game next Friday. Thank you for these tips.

One more tip for you as you get ready for your broadcast on Friday: don't talk over the pitch. Make the sound of the ball hitting the catcher's glove and the sound of bat-on-ball be partners in your broadcast. Good luck!
