He really thought he finally found someone and the thought of it all being a lie blinded him for so long. It's a great step that he's talking to his siblings about it because people who take advantage of others only benefit from their target keeping everything a secret. And his sister seems really supportive. As for his comment on being embarrassed about not having had a physical relationship at his age, don't be embarrassed. Society is way too obsessed with sex and the concept of virginity. Do whatever is right for you.
