@@SkyyPiano the seeds themselves don't have alkaloids, but the seeds that are within the pod are coated with opium so during harvesting a lot of the Opium as well as pieces of the pod and straw remain with the seeds. The pods and straw are illegal for sale in the USA but the seeds are legal because they don't contain alkaloids and people mostly use them for for baking and for a lot of other recipes. When people make poppy seed tea it's called a wash because when you put them in water with some lemon juice and shake the container it releases the alkaloids and after you strain, it's poppy seed tea and it's good for pain relief, relieving stress and mood enhancer. It also helps you to sleep better. There's a lot of good things about it especially since doctors have cracked down from prescribing pain meds due to the opioid crisis. They very recently begin cracking down on the way poppy seeds are promoted as being" unwashed" because people don't want them wash even when they're using them in baking, it supposedly makes them taste funky because of the chemicals that are used.People just want them natural, but the problem is,they began seeing alot of deaths from people overdosing on poppy seed tea so it's hard to find good ones that haven't been somewhat washed. But yeah you're right the poppy seeds themselves are inactive.
