I am like you. I have been using Spot Removers with the screw lock for over ten years and have a great hookup ratio. I caught my 9 pound 10 ounce personal best on this jig with a black Trick Worm. I am not going to change something that works.

@olebiker Zoom trick and finesse worms are one of my go to baits! 9lbs! Crazy! Up here in Ohio I have gotten an almost 4 lb bass a few times in my river but nothing monster like that!

Excellent presentation Randy. I used to catch fish on the shakey head. Then, my bite success stopped. I resorted to finesse jigs with improved success just to get a bite or two. Will certainly put shakey heads on my presentation list.

They say they can make you skin hook fish and lose them easier. Idk I never had that problem. Maybe it's the bigger fish? I caught a bass just shy of 4 lbs on a buckeye spot remover and landed it fine. 🤷

Nothing is wrong with it all, it’s not a smaller bite gap and you don’t lose anymore fish than be without it. If you wanna find someone that will tell you actually good reasons not to, then go watch Jesse Wiggins there is some videos on him talking shakey heads.

Screw locks are the best thing since sliced bread whether its a shakey head or swimbait. I think most of these setups are geared towards clear highland lakes. We throw em on a MH baitcasting setup here in Texas with 16lb fluoro and ALWAYS a screw lock style head. Very few issues

Wow, how you explained setting that hook with a spinning setup literally answered so much of the confusion and dismay I've had in the past 4 months. I'm going to focus my attention in setting the hook just like that and stop trying to force the hook set entirely. I only have a spinning setup for now and I think that's a huge mistake I've been making, I've been back and forth wondering if I'm pulling the hook out of their mouth or if I'm missing my opportunities because I'm not aggressive enough with my hook set. An idea for a future video could be when to use different styles of hook setting, for example when/with what types of lures/hooks would I want to have a snappier hook set with a spinning reel? How does rod strength affect the hook set, and on that note when would a rod setup simply be too weak for certain presentations/hook setting techniques? I need more confidence with a shaky head. I’ve always used a slip sinker. I know there is a difference but I’m not sure what it is. Thank you I’m going to try that hook in the description for sure.

@ Sorry to say it, but Randy is the one who comes off as the know-it-all. I’m not saying his way of fishing a shakyhead is wrong. He’s always the one saying his way is the best way and even says demeaning things like other anglers are “kindergartners” when they don’t fish the way he recommends. Fishing is more variable than that. His way is not the only way to do things, even if he likes to pretend it is.

I have no problem with the screw lock spring type shakey head. Rarely miss a fish or lose once hooked. I think it should be what a person prefers.. I go through the worm and fish it and skin hook the point. I fish it on a bait caster with 17lb line.

Don't say other ways are wrong! Say you prefer it this way. You wonder why people resent you. You are so cocky and it's your way or the highway. And use braid to a leader and maybe you would get a good penetrating hookset without all that stretch.

I stopped at the title. I know it’s pointless to disagree with or complain about anything you say. You are very full of yourself and it has, for me, become a waste of time searching for nuggets among the rocks. Your titles are great examples of what I find odious. You present no data supporting your claims that 90% or 95% or 99% of anglers do this or that wrong. Why not drop that stupid approach and just say things like “Here’s a dropshot tip that really works for me?” Or even “Here’s how most coanglers who have fished with me screw up their jerkbaits retrieves?” The 90% thing is tiresome, arrogant and unnecessarily offensive or insulting. And those characteristics of so many of your videos are likely directly tied to your followers plateauing at 137K. You're becoming the Talk Radio show of the fishing world. You can do better. So much better!
