Puppy City- I would say the guy saying, "Wee Wee Pads" is funnier. Puppy City sounds like a cute name for a pet store. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Bowling Game- The fact that the character costumes have teeth make them much creepier than necessary. Nutcracker Commercial- That's one disturbing looking Nutcracker costume design for a stage show. Magic Bottle Baby- I wonder if any kids annoyed their parents by repeatingly pressing the buttons on the bottle to make the sounds randomly, especially the burping. Psychic 900 number- I remember seeing commercials for those all the time. They're just money making schemes, I think.

9:28 - "It's only in theaters..." There's a phrase that hopefully will not become nostalgic. I actually miss movie theaters, and prefer it to streaming at home. I know there's a lot of people who disagree, and love their home theater set ups. I just miss the social interaction of theaters, I guess, and hope it doesn't completely go away when the pandemic is over.

And that's the late, great Tony Jay narrating that Doctor Mario commercial. Hard to believe Beauty and the Beast will 30 next year. I still remember my parents picking me up from school and driving me to our theater to see it. I swear I remember seeing that Ninja Turtles hockey commercial and I think I may have asked for that for Christmas, but I don't think I got it. Did get some Darkwing Duck figures that year though, so that was pretty nice.

WNYW!!!!! Very cool to get a special cartoon block for Thanksgiving. While they were independent as WNEW they did this all the time and even in the early Fox 5 days they still did stuff like this. Good memories. Plus I haven't seen the Puppy City ad in YEARS! That ad was shown only on channel 5 (or mostly on there if memory serves me correctly) and it dates to at least the mid '80s and believe me "wee wee pad" was a very funny thing to a young person like me every time that was on!

Oh man, the Friendly's Jubilee Roll ad at 11:43! Growing up in New England, that was a holiday tradition! Friendly's closed a bunch of their stores a few years ago, not sure how much longer they're going to last. Their food was never that great, to be honest (although enjoyable as comfort food), but their sundaes were great!

Considering Friendly’s just filed for bankruptcy again a couple of weeks ago so I wouldn’t be surprised if the others that are left close now. Only have one left in my city. And the two that were in my hometown one closed down in the late 90’s or early 00’s and it now a Starbucks and the other one closed down doing the first shutdowns of Friendly’s.

re: #40 in the description: Let's just keep in mind the 3D at the time might most likely have referred to those multiple layers of parallax that 16-bit games were known for. Plus check out the MODE7 in games like Pilotwings and F-Zero - it's 3D Enough! :D
@80sCommercialVault4 жыл бұрын
I know what Mode 7 is, but I'm still not sure if it was totally accurate or honest to describe the SNES as a "3D system"...especially before the existence of Super FX games like Star Fox came on the scene. And parallax scrolling was used in later NES games as well.

$89 for a game boy 🤔 wonder how much retail games ran? If I had to guess. $50 for main titles. Like Mario Metroid etc.
@80sCommercialVault4 жыл бұрын
Not that expensive. The most expensive games were around $35-40 at the time. Most games were around $30. Budget games were $20 and some even less. Mario Land and Metroid were routinely sold at $20: i.imgur.com/XQAecK7.jpg
@coreylineberry85573 жыл бұрын
@@80sCommercialVault But factoring in inflation, it would be around $50-60. EDIT: Factoring in that this ad is from 1991, the value of the American dollar had fallen to the point that, with inflation, those games are worth roughly double in 2021 money. So, if we're talking in modern terms, those budget games you referred to would be roughly $40 in 2021, and the more expensive games around $70-80.
