Had to double take that AT&T commercial. They got it pretty spot on in 1993 with the whole remote meetings thing!

Fun Fact: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the first game to get a set release date here in the US. Before then, games kind of had target months, or time periods when they would be released. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 had a firm release date in the US and Europe, of Tuesday ("Sonic 2's-day) November 24th. In Japan, it was released just three days earlier on the 21st, making it one of the first games to be released worldwide around the same time.

That sort of fact always segues into my experience getting the original Final Fantasy as a kid. I called the local stores every couple days the month it came out. And I got lucky and they sold it to me the same day they got the shipment in. Based on today’s standards, it was definitely early.

Sega of America pushed the Japanese developers hard to make sure they had the game finished and shipped on time too. Sega America had a big marketing campaign in place for Sonic 2 to be released on a Tuesday.

Nordictrack- I never realized how flimsy that Nordictrack exercise machine looks in this commercial. Whenever that man is using it, I almost expect that machine to just break apart at any given moment. TV Spot For Son In Law- If I didn't know better, I would have thought that this TV Spot was for an actual horror movie. The screaming at the end topped off the commercial perfectly.

The main thing I remember about Last Action Hero is that they advertised it on the side of a space shuttle that went into orbit...I guess Columbia/Sony was going for the Martian Demographic?...

Let's see, 4.95 for the first three Cheers episodes, then 19.95 plus s&h for each additional three episode tape. Cheers ran for 275 episodes so that means you'll have spent over $2,300 for about 92 cassette tapes. Sent every 4-5 weeks, that would take you roughly 23 years to complete your collection. Columbia house went under in the US in 2010, 3 years before you would have completed your collection. The complete series came out in 2015 on DVD and retails for about $65 nowadays. In short as someone else stated earlier, Columbia House was a total ripoff and I was so happy to see them go under.
@80sCommercialVault
@80sCommercialVault 2 жыл бұрын
Provided you got a new tape every 4 weeks you would get 39 episodes a year. So it would take more like 7 years, not 23. I'm not actually sure if Columbia House released the entire series in this fashion, but yes...an absolute ripoff.

Barq's Root Beer-A&W had more"bite" IMO Burger King-LAH was playing in the theater across from the one playing Jurassic Park in my local multiplex..lot of people were sneaking over from the former

A&W never tasted as good as Barqs or MUG imo. The latter always tasted more vanilla-like, while A&W tasted kinda "lite".

The bite in Barqs is most likely the caffeine they put in it. A&W and Mug have no caffeine.

#8: - The linked video is a Vidmark trailer, possibly from a 1993 reprint. It specifically mentions both Jurassic Park and Dennis the Menace and calls this movie a mashup! ...Was this intentional...? >;p *EDIT:* ...Apparently, it was; it was a pitch tape to rental store employees! Who knew? XD

The 1993 re-release on VHS renamed the movie to be "Dennis The Menace: Dinosaur Hunter". They were clearly trying to cash in on those later movies.
