Even though I love the sharpness of my new 4K monitor, I really can't say the same about my fps, of course, my pc is also much much better, but the struggle for 60 fps at 4K is much greater than at 1080p...

What's great about lower resolution display is that, if the monitor is native 900p, there is no display upscale taking place, so the image looks sharp and clean, while taking less power to use. Hell, I'll still game at 720p on my old Core 2 Duo with an R7 250E potato pc. It's scaling that makes lower resolutions look so terrible. Your suggestion of finding a 900p monitor was excellent advice! For those who can't do that, you can go into your driver settings and change the view port. On a 1080p panel you would enter something like 1600x900+160+90 to get 900p centered on your monitor. Yes, it shrinks your display somewhat, but it's clean and crisp. I do this on a 1280x1080 monitor to get 720p with black bars on the top and bottom, and it looks great. We all do what we must. ;0)

It held fast for the longest time. When I got an actual PC, I was able to score a B Grade GTX 960 4GB for cheap, and found a decent 900p monitor, which ensured that I got more performance. It wasn't until I moved to the GTX 1060 is where I finally aimed for 1080p... I'm now on an RTX 3060 Ti, still at 1080p, but happy with what I got

Very nice video as usual! I always thought that 900p is a very reasonable resolution with quite a small impact on image quality but a decent bump up in performance. There was a time when my options were either 1080p with 45-50 fps or 900p with almost locked 60. I usually preferred the latter and most of the times I couldn't tell the difference. After a GPU upgrade I had a different dilemma as I had a 1920x1080 (16:9) and a 1680x1050 (16x10) monitor. The resolution of the latter is between 900p and 1080p so depending on the game and its performance I had to choose between 3 resolutions and 2 different aspect ratios

I had a 32 inch 768p TV for a while and the picture was fine, as long as you gave it some distance(as you should when using it as a TV). As long as you can keep the distance when using it as a PC monitor(like a couch PC) it should still be fine. I'd avoid sticking it on a desk at which you sit, though. You would very likely notice a fair bit of pixelation in that kind of setup.

More and more GPUs are going to need to be DX12 Ultra for different games to get a better experience. The good news is that for people that have ANY money kicking around AMD RDNA 2 GPUs have been dirt cheap and in not too long the 7600 is going to be in the range of $220 USD which is honestly an AMAZING deal for the performance that GPU has, along with 8GB VRAM.

i play at 900p. my 2200g doesn't have the bandwidth (i guess) to push 1080p and 900p gives a decent boost. i've seen it going from 30fps at 1080p to 50fps at 900p in some game i can't remember now. kingdom come deliverance comes to mind because it plays perfectly on this little thing.

any chance on trying a laptop with r5 7520u with 610m? i may get one for work and wanted to see if i can use it for some light gaming when traveling but for some reason there isn't one benchmark video , only a couple with r3 or athlon
@arz1898 Жыл бұрын
thats a specific setup to ask him to test lol. according to techpowerup, radeon 610m is around the same performance as a desktop gt 630, which is awful in my experience lol like in witcher 3, 20 fps 720p...

i cant put a link here but search this on youtube for benchmark: Ryzen 3 7320U (Radeon 610M) yes the cpu is weaker but gpu is still the limiting factor in games...

I remember back when i had that old crt, I used to minimize the resolution to 768p. It was horrendous but at the same time, acceptable considering what I had. Today, turning resolution down isn't something people take into consideration. Reducing texture, aa and other types of quality settings are considered rather than lowering the resolution. 900p is an excellent choice considering 1050 and 3 gb vram. A lot of older cards could (and should) be used in this way other than straight away replacing the hardware. P.S. The potato roast was awesome (and the ex-girlfriend one too)

I have a DELL 1702FP monitor (1280 x 1024), and I once paired it with a GTX Titan Black, because I was just so curious. It worked out surprisingly well in my case, easily exceeding 60 FPS in Cyberpunk with medium/high settings. It was such a weird combination! Also a question; I have an NCR desktop with a 6th gen i3. There is no PSU power expansion, so I'll need a GPU that only accepts power from the PCIe lanes. It is connected to a CRT at 1080i. What GPU should I invest in to get a nice gaming experience? Nothing over kill, it's only an i3 lol.
@humb707ldtkali7 Жыл бұрын
Get a 1650 non super. (They’re a 75w card that only run off of the pcie lanes) and seeing as your i3 is a 6th gen it’s probably close to a i5-3770 so it should pair really well!

I got into pc gaming a while ago, and i borrowed a TN 1440x900 monitor from my sister, and kept him about 6 years. 6 very happy long years. That was all i got, paired with an msi gtx 670, that thing was a beast. I played battlefield 3 night and day with that setup, and BF4 too. Now that i am playing constantly in quad hd, nvidia say to me that i must use dlss and frame generation to get better frames in the new gpus. Oh boy, it was a great time playing under 1080p, but i will never go down this resolution ever again, even with upscaling. Maybe if i played in 4k, i would use. But naaah. Seems like im back to 2013

While UK viewers shoud get this I am sure this joke will not make cents to Americans.

My 3rd PC from spare parts have GTX 1050 2gb version(128bit) with R3 1200AF, what I bought when I already have Radeon 7950 (384bit memory bus)... I was surprised how good it runs Witcher 3 Med-High settings (50-65FPS) compare to 7950 (40-45FPS with AMD-FX 8350 and 1866Memory) and yes both cards run in 900p resolution. When I testing battlefield 1 on medium settings I dropped resolution to 900p from FHD and it give me extra 10-15FPS, now it's CPU bound, but runs pretty well 55 FPS drops and 80 average. Main problem with lowering resolution on non native monitors it's gamma correction and details loss. I have much better hardware, but I always want to see how it will run on something like this, check optimization and squeeze every fps's.

I think it's a bit of a shame 900p monitors (mostly) aren't around anymore. They are much more of a sweet spot for 18,5-21,5 inch panels than 720p is and the performance gain on older hardware really is pretty significant. And it always looks better to play on native resolution than to reduce it to something that doesn't really match the pixel distrubution of the panel. I guess the bright side is that monitors nowadays are pretty sturdy and second hand market is pretty rich. ...Just thinking about it now, I haven't had a monitor die on me for the last 20 years or so, while I've seen so many TVs do just that for no apparent reason? What's up with that...

1080p is phasing out too for 1440p. Hopefully soon both phase out and 4k becomes the norm. Graphics cards and 4k refresh rates have gotten to the point where 4k gaming is possible.
@WayStedYou Жыл бұрын
because the price of making a 1080p panel is so cheap, and 720p panels for laptops is more viable than also adding 900p panels anymore.
@alchemik666 Жыл бұрын
@@humble2246 I'm not sure if we'll in foreseeable future get to the point where affordable parts make gaming in 4k fully viable, but the nice part of 4k screens is that you can set then to 1080p while not going against the pixel layout. ;)

In mw2 make sure to stick to local bots, friends only, and campaign. Unless you want to get banned by cheaters sending modified packets to your client. Activision wont do anything about it either so just be safe friend :). Nice video as well. 720p was always my sweet spot haha.
