The Disney Channel had rich and varied programming all day, every day. This was a really fantastic movie lineup - typical of the channel's golden era. Born in 1983 so I remember it all. This aired on Wednesday August 7, 1991.

The voiceover is done by Jerry Bishop, who today is the announcer on "Judge Judy", which I believe he has been since that show started in 1996. I think Jerry stopped doing voice-overs for the Disney channel around that time---whether he left because of a better offer with Judge Judy show I don't know. I agree. He was an excellent voice-over and I have great memories of watching the disney channel with him announcing.

A sharp contrast to the current announcers of Disney Channel. Here it's much more calming and puts you in a good mood, leaving your evening wide open for the night's feature presentations. Today, it's become much more cartoonish and reved up with flashing colors and images. It may be fun and exciting, but often it leads to a very short burst of excitement that's immedietely lost once the bumper ends. It's like a spoon of sugar with no cereal to put it on. You can learn a lot from the past.
@ThePirateprincess2311 жыл бұрын
@EdwarioERS yeah, I remember those video cases. Some of them had corners that were sharp enough to either scratch or cut you if you were not careful. As for Disney Channel having no commercials, while they didn't promote cars or hair care products, Disney Channel's commercials promoted their own movies, series, and specials (as well as the ones that prompted people to subscribe to the Disney Channel) that aired on no other channels.

In 1997 The Disney Channel switched over to ad-supported basic service so you're correct, there were no commercials until that point. Not only now, but even years ago Disney would offer limited-time movie releases (VHS of course). One that I remember well is Pinocchio, back in 1993. The ad went something like, "Own it now for the last time this century!" Oh yeah I remember those thick white VHS clamshell cases, particularly from the black diamond Classics era when I was growing up. :)

I always thought that the Disney Channel back then only showed only Disney-produced live-action movies, or older movies. But then seeing recent films at the time such as "Ghostbusters II" on the list, I thought, whoa. Newer films? And films that are a little more rough. Most of these films were probably from Touchstone I suppose, which is owned by Disney. Of course being a more family-friendly station, they did have to bleep-out or dub the curse words.

Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but could it be "Amazing Animals"? It had this goofy CGI gecko/alligator thing that would constantly get into shenanigans while the host tried to talk about nature stuff. It was on Disney in the 90s.
@EdwarioERS12 жыл бұрын
At that time, which I would guess is from 1991. The Disney Channel was like HBO. It was a premium network you paid extra for full of movies, I can't remember, but there were probably no commercials during the films if it was a premium. Now Disney carrot sticks people with their limited time Blu Ray releases. Buy it now before it goes back in the vault. The only one I cared to get was Beauty & The Beast. Remember those thick white VHS cases? Those things were ridiculous.
