Really enjoyed your video & your view of things including the fake spike (you’re absolutely right): I’m not a Jets fan but have followed the entire NFL since 1980 when my Steelers were in decline. What’s great about the 1980s & 90s was that almost ALL games were watchable because of the long passes, great QBs & great hits. Most ppl under the age of 60 who make a video about this era completely miss the context. But you presented it perfectly. Great job.

I agree so much. I loved those Jets unis and couldn't stand when they changed to the darker green unis. They kind of went back to those uniforms but they aren't the same. I'm glad some one else loved those uniforms. Thanks again for another comment.

Thanks for another awesome video! My only criticism is that kicker John Hall didn’t get an honorable mention. He joined the Jets in 1997 and became known for making tackles on kickoffs during his tenure. This was in an era when kickers weren’t expected to do so, and Hall definitely helped start this trend. He was essentially the Pat McAfee of his day.

Thank you so much for the comment. I really enjoyed reading it. To be honest, I don't remember John Hall being such a tackler on kickoffs but I don't remember kickers at all being tacklers. But thanks for mentioning that. I always appreciate extra info. Kickers and making tackles is not something I know a lot about. There's a clip I saw of Adam Vinatieri running down Herschel Walker on a kick return and then I remember punter Todd Sauerbrun making some tackles early in his Chicago Bears career because the Bears special teams was so bad and Todd was kicking line drive punts at the time. Rob Moore was a damn good receiver! I’ll never forget how furious I was when he was traded away for a first round draft pick in ‘95!

Nice video. Wayne 80 was one of my favorite players back at that time. Ronnie Lott finished his career with the Jets in the 90s, and so did Art Monk.

I can agree with you more. Wayne Chrebet #80 was one of the best wide receivers for the New York Jets especially Wide Receiver Keyshawn Johnson #19. They could've been a dynamic duo combination to bring the Jets a Super Bowl Championship Trophy.

The 1993 team could be expanded upon further. They had one of the leagues top defenses, brought in some free agents (Lott, Leonard Marshall) had one of the leagues best offensive lines. They were 8-5 at one point, went into Buffalo needing a win to make the playoffs, but Cary Blanchard misses 3 field goals (inexcusable) and the Jets get some horrible calls go against them and lose 16-14. That 1993 team was incredibly unlucky, but they were better than their record.

I agree. Their defense was very good, especially against the run. The jets main problem was that they scored only 270 points all year. Yards don't equal points, and the 1993 jets are the perfect example of this. If they maybe scored a td vs. Indianapolis in week 14, or beat the oilers backups in week 18, or boomer esiason dosent throw a pick 6 vs Buffalo, then the jets would be in

To this day one of the greatest coaching jobs I've ever seen from a head coach was Parcells when the Jets went 8 and 8 after Vinnie T went down. I can't remember exactly but we were like 1 and 7 and by the time the season was finished other teams were thanking their lucky stars the Jets just missed the playoffs, cause they just might have won a SB if they'd made the second season. Parcells coached his ass off that year, coach of the year regardless of what coach won it. That was supposed to be our year, and Vinnie get an Achilles Last Stand and the rest is the Jets star crossed history. Still I remember that shit.

But you are correct, one of the greatest coaching jobs ever that season (I am assuming you are talking about the 1999 season).

@@90sSportsNostalgia I think it was 99, I can't think of the QB but he was like a "slash" guy and it took him awhile to get his footing, as did the team. I cannot think of his name, I've even seen him as a commentator since then. By the time that season was ending, the Jets were unstoppable, but Jets fate is a cruel mistress, and so we'll never know. But yeah, that team had heart for miles and miles.

3:49 Al Toon really was an amazing wide receiver who was tough as nails and fit the blue color image of the Jets. He seemed more physical than Rice. We can only imagine the severity of his concussions, since they forced him into retirement. Still remember Byrd’s injury the day that it happened.

this is a bit off the subject but i lost my mind when they allowed Jonathan Vilma to come to New Orleans. there's no way we have a superbowl win without that dude. ive always been somewhat fond of the jets. for whatever reason my brain associates them and their color scheme and the things the fans chant with the pure nostalgia of a childhood that was very sports heavy. i remember watching Curtis Martin live, i remember when Vinny Testaverde was like 41 years old and came in as a big spark for that team. i remember chad pennington and him being injury prone on madden but also irl hence the Vinny T. thing. really interesting cast of characters like Namath.

Despite the fact that the New York Jets were overcoming some negative adversity from critics within the organization, I felt that the Jets could've won the AFC Championship just once during the mid 1990s. Even though they had good players in Vinny Testeverde, Ray Lucas, Kevin Mawae, Wide Receivers in Wayne Chrebet, Keyshawn Johnson, Laverneous Coles, and Santana Moss, these New York Jets deserved so much more. But according to this video, why would coach Bill Belichick leave the Jets organization to coach the New England Patriots despite the fact that Coach Bill Parcells was gaining some success to try to make the New York Jets a winning football team with aspirations.

It was a crazy decade throughout. The situation between the Jets and Patriots was interesting. I should have talked about the "poison pill" deal Martin signed with the Jets and how Parcells was willing to overpay and take a chance with Martin, whom he loved. The true embarrassment in 1992 was losing at foxboro. The jets lost 24-3 to the 1-9 patriots. The woefully inept New england offense had 3 rushing tds, and the jets had just 166 yards of offense against a poor Pats defense. That 92 pats team was arguably the most injured team of all time

You know what, with what has been going on with the Jets since the Rex Ryan days, it's been very rough and strange being a Jets fan. With that said, I was thinking about doing a Jets video, talking about during my prime of watching NFL football (1990 - to the late 2000s), the Jets weren't a poor franchise and were actually competitive (with the exception of a few seasons).
