WARNING! You've connected a RESISTOR, not a DIODE! Replace the resistor with a diode, otherwise your batter will drain or you could even have a fire in your light switch! (By the way, the picture of the wires and diode at 7:46 are from me, and I was the one who came up with the technique to insert the diode leads directly into the plug, in order to avoid splicing your wires, like the original utkinpol hack.)

I did this hack when I first bought my 997.1 about 8 years ago. Works great. With so many fog light upgrades available for the 997.1, none are a true DRL solution without this hack. Give a lot of credit to the person that figured out this one. 🤯

Thanks for watching and the support. In all honesty, I do not know the exact technical specs required for the resistor or diode. I had a few extra diodes laying around and they seem to work without issues.

Hello Kenneth...Yes, the unit is a PnP. However, simply plugging it in does not give you the ability to have the lamps be "DRL". That is why you have to "hack" the wiring to complete the DRL setup.

Hello, your videos are really informative about the 997.1 era wish there were more youtubers that had this car. I’m thinking about getting one myself however am afraid of things like bore scoring, ims, and the rms issues. Have you encountered any of these problems in your 997.1?

David, knock on wood, but my .1 has not experienced any of these issues. I had a good PPI performed and ended up replacing wear/tear parts such as water pump, thermostat, front axles, etc. I'll continue to update this channel with more 911 content as long as it's financial doable. You know...Porsche Taxes.

Great video. Thanks for posting. With the OEM fog lamp housings, the plugs press back into the back of the housing to provide a water tight seal. Do the wires/plugs on the new unit just hang behind the housing like the way you show it when putting it in or do they also press into the back of the housing?

@@TheAutomotiveFanatic Hi, I have these same DRLs, but rather than having the fogs as the DRL do you know if there is a way to wire the parking lights as DRL? I haven't changed any of the wiring and currently my parking lights only come on while driving if I move the switch to the 3rd (fog light?) position but doing this also turns on my tail lights. Hoping there is a way to have only the parking lights on while driving and in OFF or Home position. Thanks!

@@westhekiller Unfortunately, I cannot confirm that what you want to accomplish, is possible. In theory, I would that that it is not because the parking lights are all wired on the same circuit.

If I understand correctly, the DRL hack simply has the LEDs on instead of the headlights when DRLs are selected using the car's computer. My only problem with that is that the DRL selection powers front AND rear lights, and I only want from lights for DRL. Thoughts? (2207 997 4S).

Dan, thanks for the great question. In all honesty, I cannot tell you exactly where the "hack" leads to in terms of wiring. What I can tell you, the setup was installed on the same model 911, a 07' C4S and the rear lights DID NOT come on. Only the DRLs came on when the switch was positioned in the "home".

That's actually helpful. The problem with the internal DRL setting is that both front and rear lights come on -- there's no option for one or the other. It sounds like the DRL setting is off, and the diode hack drives the LEDs independent of the setting. Thanks! @@TheAutomotiveFanatic

You want the cathode or the silver band closer to the Red/Yellow wire.
