Great footage - especially seeing the Dellners coupling up. Thanks for capturing. Pretty sure the 73/9 is 73966 though, as that ran in from Craigy to work the "Edinburgh portion"...? 73971 was involved later in the night running in from Polmadie to haul the Glasgow portion back out of GLC.

Got to smile - In typical BR fashion they built Nightstar sleepers from 1992 to 1997 and then realised they didn't have a locomotive powerful enough to haul a train. And if they did the OHL wasn't powerful enough. So they cancelled the project and sold them to Via Rail Canada for $130 Mn. Taxpayer carried the loss. And here we are 26 years later and we have a Nightstar clone You couldn't make it up.

Much prefer the Mk3s/Mk2s. Instead of buying these Mk5s, they should invest more into refurbishing the current stock as they seem to be run into the ground.

Craig Macfarlane and Mario Sonic - what a pair of ignorant people you are. We don't build anything here? We are the 9th largest manufacturing country in the world and 2nd largest per capita. British aerospace is worth £18 Bn a year. And guess what? We build more satellites than anyone else. And on rail we have Bombardier and Hitachi building thousands of new carriages here plus a new CAF factory in Wales. Even Siemens are building a new factory in Goole. Toyota, Honda and Nissan all choosing to come here and build cars for global sales (no not just the EU) and JLR so big it has factories in China and Brazil. And by the way that Class 92 was built here Mario...
@craigymac53866 жыл бұрын
@@1chish Why am I ignorant? The class 92 was built for BR at a time when all our locos were built here Nowadays all our freight wagons are built in Poland, Mk5s built in Poland. Class 67 ,68 ,88 built in Spain .class 66 and 70 built in the States. I'm stating a fact that british railway manufacturing is not what it was.
@1chish6 жыл бұрын
Craig - You said: "Just a pity they can't seem to build anything in Britain anymore." And hence my reply. Had you said: "Just a pity they can't seem to build any locomotives in Britain anymore." I would have agreed with you. When you make a global condemnation of the country (as you did) you will get a very firm argument from me. Yes we should build more Locos and rolling stock here but that takes time to reverse trends of decades. Years of under investment and awful build quality (started under BR by the way) forced the likes of EWSR freight to buy 250 Class 66s after the Class 59s worked well right from when they landed (Class 67s by the way were part of that order but the build was sub contracted to Meinfesa who became GEC Alstom who became Vossloh now Stadler). Over 400 Class 66s have been landed here since with hundreds more going to European customers. So even there they 'buy foreign'. And Mk 5s are built in Spain by CAF (sleepers and day carriages) who are now building a new factory in Newport Wales. And as for freight wagons being built in Poland maybe question how the EU funds Eastern European companies to build new factories and equipment while UK companies get no such help. Just saying.
