Join beloved bestselling author Mitch Albom (Tuesdays with Morrie) for a conversation on his new novel, The Little Liar, with Malcolm Gladwell.
An instant New York Times bestseller, The Little Liar moves from a coastal Greek city during WWII to America in the golden age of Hollywood, as the intertwined lives of three young survivors are forever changed by the perils of deception and the grace of redemption. As an American Jewish writer, Albom’s first novel of the Holocaust is also intensely personal - a heartfelt and vital contribution to an important body of historical fiction that serves as a bulwark against forgetting. Hear him and Gladwell discuss the story behind the story, mixing historical fact with fiction, why Holocaust stories remain crucial in 2024, and more.
Recorded February 4, 2024 at The 92nd Street Y, New York.

This lovely waltz of a conversation revealed so much about Mitch and Malcolm. Their back and forth was completely, delightfully middlebrow.

I once met an old vet with a number tattooed on his lower arm. I was a caregiver at the time and he told me that he could see that it was not the right train to get on so he sneakily managed to get on the other train, it saved his life and he lived to tell about it

Have met Mitch in person on a cpl of occasions around suburban Detroit. He is as you see him here available to conversate with the public because he enjoys people stories. His Jewish background has been a major influence. His compassion for the orphans of Haiti is an extension of the empathy he has for those who have & are suffering. That’s what I find so puzzling about his stances on students protesting against Israeli policy & actions in Gaza region. Sure a lot of them are just wanting to be part of the “in” thing to be traumatized about. And yes Oct. 7th happened so not many can make a case for Hamas. Yet the default defense of “ October 7” or “so you support Hamas” for the Israeli response that is like having an ongoing Oct 7th almost everyday befuddles me. Labeling any protesting anti-Semitic is to deny what the world is seeing going on in the Gaza conflict. If you say it’s wrong for Hamas to hide behind or use the Palestinian people as a shield then using anti-Semitic as a shield for committing war crimes makes you just as evil. It’s manipulative & convenient to try to redirect the focus away from the killing (some say murdering ) of massive amounts more of people not to mention leveling civilians homes forcing them to move or be killed. It’s disheartening to hear Mitch’s takes on his radio show because I have such regard for his humanity in his works. Perplexing to me

❤❤❤I’m an anti-Gladwell fan, though I can’t deny the Holocaust because I heard a lot of Prof. Snyder, I sit here in Saitama on my futon in awe of somebody I’ve never heard of talk about his commitment to Haiti , a place that right now is what I imagine will be a predictable pocket place for future communities around 2050 amongst my grandchildren’s lives directly or indirectly affected by either heat or cold so uninsurable that they can’t afford to take care of their ancestors altars.

Is there really a person alive today that has the slightest portion of respect for Gladwell? A suppository has more intellectual integrity.

No question about it, Malcolm and Mitch are not for you. Why did you even stop to listen to this interview? Move on and don’t think about them. They are not for you.
