Legendary O.J. Simpson trial prosecutor Marcia Clark joins the 92nd Street Y Talks circuit.
Since leaving her famous post at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office in the mid-90s, Clark has become a bestselling crime novelist. Her new book, Blood Defense, draws upon Ms. Clark’s own experience in the courtroom. It is the first book in a new series about a young, ambitious defense attorney who is looking for her big break when she lands the case of a decorated police detective charged with the murder of a beloved TV star. They should have hammered home the uniqueness of the DNA evidence that is attributable to Simpson only. And they shouldn’t have asked Simpson to try on the bloody glove. That being said, Ito deserves the largest share of the blame. He failed to control the courtroom. He allowed cameras in despite the case not having any major national security implications. He allowed the defense to run wild with conspiracy theories without evidence. He showed sexism towards Clark. He refused to recuse himself despite the fact that his wife was the superior officer of Mark Furhman. Ito deserves the largest share of the blame.

They had the blood of OJ, RB & NS found in OJ's truck, and in his house, and the prosecution still got destroyed. The sloppy criminalists, and criminal detectives (Fuhrman and Vannatter) dragged Marcia to the ground. Fuhrman confessed his hatred to black men who spouse white women. He knew the Simpsons. In '85 as Nicole ran into his arms after she called the cops on OJ for domestic abuse case and Fuhrman was the cop who showed up. ___ Nothing happened that day as no charges were pressed, although ironically he wrote a report in ’89 (four years later), when he wasn't on that case. Why? Because he said the '85 case left him with “insurable impression". Of the 9 calls by Nicole, only Fuhrman wrote a report, a four years late report . This is the man who “found" the gloves. He pleaded the 5th when asked if he planted evidence! His tape recording were not all played in court. Surprisingly, similar words were uttered and written in request for a “risk pay" pension in early 80s. The defence had a long suspicion about Fuhrman at the start of the trial, the tape were discovered in late August. It just proved every suspicion about him. Not enough!! The sloppy work by the criminalists and the forensic team created many doubts. After OJ gave a blood samples, detective Vannater took the blood vial not to the lab, but to OJ's house, presumably to give it to the criminalists there. Ironically, they can't account for 1.5 millilitres of missing blood. The blood on the sock which the man who took it from the scene Mr. Fung, had EDTA (a blood preservative usually added to blood vials). And Mr. Fung initial note on the sock was that it didn't had any bloods on it. Doubts were all over the place for the jury. The alleged blood stained clothes and the knife was thrown out by OJ at the airport, but he was careless enough to leave a “bloody” sock on his bedroom. Kato Kaelin heard three loud bangs behind his room. The prosecution say OJ hit his head on the AC unit three times (like a loony tunes cartoon). There were no injuries on OJ's head. Ron Goldman had bruised knuckles, he fought for his life, yet no bruises on OJ's body. ⚠️ My point is, the defence created enough doubts, to make conviction on “beyond reasonable doubt" an impossible task

As far as Marcia wanting to "make millions off this case"- she left a higher paying management job in Central Operations before the Simpson case, so that shoots down your theory. Marcia Clark comes across here as being much more likable and personable than I remember her being in the courtroom during the OJ trial. Lawyers will tell you that being able to connect with a jury through your personality is very important. There were many things that went wrong with the OJ trial. So it’s hard to blame any one thing. However, I can’t help but think that if Marcia Clark had shown more of her witty and lighthearted nature in the courtroom, then she may have been able to connect more with the jury.

I definitely noticed the hostility towards her and wondered at the time if anyone else had. She did an amazing job and I was appalled at the verdict. In my opinion, the jury was star struck and perhaps concerned about the backlash of a guilty verdict to ignore all of the overwhelming evidence.

I know this would have been an incredibly emotional case for Marcia, however, I don't think she could honestly say she was unlucky to be a part of it since it essentially made her a household name and hence she has literally made millions due to her affiliation with it. If she had written those books as a completely unknown author she would not have had the book sales and been invited to do (paying) interviews such as these. Through the horrific double murder committed by OJ so many people involved in this case have since moved on to make a lot of money out of it..even Mark Furhman. I'm not putting any of them down, just stating the obvious. Having said all of that I am a huge fan of Marcia, I think she had gotten better with age! She looks amazing 👌❤

I was hoping she would address the lead detective's criticisms of how she should have included other evidence he wanted included in the trial; even if extending the hours. Also, the harm of delivering OJs collected blood to the detective (why would the investigator ever have possession of suspects' blood) let alone at the scene of the crime (house) rather than having OJ go to the lab directly; even though collected blood vile has a chemical preservative that guarantees not used improperly.

This was so insightful. I watched the OJ case from beginning to end, and felt horrible for Ms. Clark. It was so obvious she had proven OJ, well beyond a reasonable doubt killed Nicole and Ron. Although, I think in some way OJ is getting negative karma handed back to him, but he should have paid the ultimate price with his life. @@marcopolo-xj4yw An Idiot judge perhaps, but my comment's focus was more on the serious errors the prosecution made, which Bugliosi painstakingly detailed in his book and in his interviews and appearances (and you must know what they are).The only question being, absent those prosecutor errors, would the outcome have been different (better)? I say quite likely, yes. A hung jury at the worst.

We are still interested in justice and that lame trial became all about race to get the jury away from the real reason for the trial. The despicable murders of Ron and Nicole. Oh my god I love her ! She is pleasant, engaging, and very cool. I can't imagine those involved in the O.J. trial not wanting to kill themselves each and everyday. Integrity is everything. The fact that she served them all a big fat f**k you on a silver platter when she walked away from her job as a prosecutor says everything about who she is. The cream always rises to the top.

How is that rising to the top? She should’ve stayed in the job field. I feel for her, feeling like she had to quit. So sad. But also the defence probably doesn’t feel like killing themselves. They did their job. Every person needs a defence guilty or innocent. That’s how our justice system works. If we didn’t have defence attorneys we would have an authoritarian government who throws people in jail at will.

Nonsense. At best she comes across like a 2 year old throwing a tantrum and expecting things to be handed over. A person who knows and respects her job should have gone back to work and corrected what ever loopholes that contributed to this loss. They had an almost level playing field with the defense and am sure she is not used to that. Why did she not walk away after the Rodney king beating case??? We all saw him being beaten. It was on tape!!!

Listen to Cynthia McFadden skip over a VERY important part. This part is at 24:23, where Marcia Clark talks about OJ trying on AN ADDITIONAL pair of gloves that were brand new (of the same materials and model of the bloody one), and THEY FIT. Cynthia glosses by this without emphasizing that, that make and model of glove DID FIT, when they were new. Cynthia, here's some advice: Quit trying to be a hot babe by wearing a short skirt and high heels. Just be an interviewer. Dress like an interviewer would dress. Wear business clothes.

I was in primary when OJ was on trial so I didn't play attention, now I can say OJ is guilty on top of guilty!!! Pray for his children!!!!
