LOVE practical advice like this. It's like having an experienced neighbor/mentor who's "been there, don't that," so I don't have to. I wish you were my neighbor - I think if avoid a lot of frustration learning things the hard way. Keep on keepin' on!

Alec, EXCELLENT idea - thank you. And since my vice didn't have a ledge nearby, I couldn't grind a flat that would do any good. But the vice had a slotted hole like yours does. So I took a large area washer (as you did) and cut two grooves from the outside, about half way through, making a tab. Then I bent the tab down and it fits perfectly into the slot. Works great. Thank you for making me think of it.

Hi Alec. I find a large "C" type vice grip works well for holding larger pieces to the table. vices are better for small stuff. Also be careful of drilling plastic without clamping as the drill can pull in deep very fast and spin the piece out of control. take care Owen m
@AlecPeirceAtTheRanch4 жыл бұрын
Good points Owen. My issue with C clamps is sometimes the strength to clamp and release it. With a wing nut I can usually hand tight it well or use a wrench to super tighten it.

@AlecPeirceAtTheRanch3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dusty. A table is needed to bolt, clamp, or secure whatever is holding the material. If the drill press if reasonably current (e.g. not WW2 surplus), Google the make and model and search for a replacement. If it's a good setup, it can last many more years. Hope this helps some and drill safe.
