From my POV: It's too bad Tony has not fictionalized the topic of rejection in any other field than romantic/social life (well, Kant is rejected by his family to some extent, too). There's such a thing as being rejected in your professional career and it's kind of analogous to the way the eponymous Feminist was rejected. I mean: you do all the right things and yet some character flaw or the lack of crucial competence keeps you down. And in the said case, the self-sabotaging process of "moving of goalposts" would maybe also apply.

Pretty sure Private Citizens captured rejection in both romantic/social life as well as professional

@@Bennate2838 Haven't read it. I've become aware of Tony T. like a month ago, but "Rejection" was pretty great, so I might buy "Private Citizens" or recommend its purchase to my local American Corner Library ;)
