The lyrics are actually "cannot hold a candle for every pretty gun", just so ya know. Thanks for posting this up, there's no band that I like more than Gaslight, they're simply excellent.

Thankyou for the reply but I think I found it, I believe it to be a Gibson J-45. I just looked up the Blues King (which was definitely a good shout) but the pickguard is a completely different shape, and the colours are slightly off. Again, thankyou for the reply. I'd like to point out again that I believe it to be a Gibson J-45, just in case anyone else reading is asking the question I did. Cheers.

He's not the greatest singer but he makes up for it in the raw, honest emotion he puts into each song. You don't see that too often in musicians these days.

@dewinchy Because Brian Fallon is an incredible, passionate and soulful musician and songwriter... I personally think everybody should listen to what he's singing and take note. The lyrics are so much better than most of the garbage released these days.

The last thing I told him over the phone before he decided to never talk to me again turned out to be right. That was 5 and a half years ago. Maybe I am one of those condemned to 100 years of solitude who will never get a second chance.

Don't write me no more letters My mailbox is full of bombs Between you and the kooks on my block I don't remember the good times I wasn't there and you were kind And my wife has some dogs in our yard And I cannot hold a candle for every pretty girl We were strangers many hours And I missed you for so long When we were lions, lovers in combat Faded like your name on those jeans that I burned But I am older now And we did it when we were young I am older now And we did it when we were young There are no reasons to believe I buried my faith in another block With your heart and your clothes When I find I don't feel you or recall I'll put your bones out in the yard Someone else to be called and called by And I cannot hold a candle for every pretty girl We were strangers many hours And I missed you for so long When we were lions, lovers in combat Faded like your name on those jeans that I burned But I am older now And we did it when we were young I am older now And we did it when we were young I am older now And we did it when we were young I am older now And we did it when we were young

@94musikfreak The ironic thing is, gun is a metaphor for girl. Because both guns and girls can be dangerous.

Gun does kind of half-rhyme with young, which girl doesn't. The thing that really convinced me though was that the American Slang lyric book says gun. Kinda a weird lyric. But does it makes ya think like you say.

I swear I heard him say somewhere that this song sounded horrible when done acoustically. Maybe it was the annoying girls in the audience who wouldn't shut up about him singing it... but wow, I think he proved himself wrong. Sounds beautiful to me.
@Omegafoxtrot11713 жыл бұрын
to be honest, it doesnt sound as good as in the album version with the calm and slightly angrier voice about the situation. it agrees much more with my current state of mind. but still this version is so beautiful that it doesnt matter.

Gibson J45. Some special edition like the "banner " edition
@svetlanagabrielli220711 жыл бұрын
i guess its "gun" because of the old phrase "one shot - one kill". during the war solders used to smoke all night long and when they light a match they used to share it with everyone around. meanwhile the enemy could see how many people are there because of the light. too many people were killed because of this. so i guess the point is he didnt want to hold this light for this gun.

"i cannot hold a candle to every pretty gun" to me sounds like he wanted out of a relationship or life........but everyone interprets it differently
@ianzapcic11023 жыл бұрын
That's definitely one interpretation! Also, the phrase "I cannot hold a candle" can mean a couple different things. Usually "I can't hold a candle to..." means "I can't compare to". So he's saying he can't compare to all the pretty guns out there, the things that are shiny and shoot out into the world. But holding a candle is something you do at a vigil (such as often is the case for gun violence), so he can also be interpreted as saying that he can't keep mourning all of the destruction caused by this pretty thing.
