As much as it's about lazy djs, it's also about the majority of crowds don't want to hear new music. I DJ in London fairly regularly and there is pressure from the bar owners to make sure the place stays busy and people keep buying drinks. If you try and play music people haven't heard before, people stop dancing immediately and give them 10 more seconds and they are making mad requests. It's a generation thing. People are used to hearing what they want instantly.
@ZacharyAghaizu6 жыл бұрын
Bro I can relate, so much. You rarely find people who just dance to anything with a great beat they haven't hear before. We should still keep slipping in new tunes though.
@NextSound1706 жыл бұрын
Pressure is a killer. But they're pushing Alcohol the best nights where people wern't drunk had a better vibe
@Midsussexrailway6 жыл бұрын
it's not about hearing what they want, it's about hearing what they are told they want by trending lists and nobody really does any real digging to discover anything anymore. it sucks because it means people go into events with closed ears.
@Tigercam246 жыл бұрын
This is the one bro. This is the reason. It's hardly about DJ saturation and more about people being used to hearing what they want when they want. Despite having access to the most music ever possible, people still only want the same things. As a DJ in Atlanta I can say this is the issue in my opinion
@jpswerve1825 жыл бұрын
I think across the UK, A lot of nightclubs are closing down because the average person does not have £350-£600 to buy out a VIP Booth. But this is all that nightclubs car about to stay open so they would book shitty DJs who can do a basic playlist of songs and have a following. 90% of DJs who play out are promoters who can bring people to the club. The good Djs however, do a lot of private gigs, but nobody really remembers there name.

Discussing DJ's is a very subjective subject, too many factors are involved. I come from an era of Drum & Bass, Garage, Dubstep, and Deep/Tech House. In these scenes there was no playing it safe, new upfront music and Dubplates ruled the roost. In these scenes the very latest music was greeted with positive crowd response. Hiphop and Urban is whole other story, where DJ's are told by the club or promoter, to water things down a bit so shit does not kick off and get rowdy. Take 'Aquum' club in Clapham, nice club fit girls, but the music can be a bit dry sometimes, because the Dj is blantantly being restricted by the owner, so that there is no problems on the night. There is also a big difference in a single DJ playing from 9-3, and three DJ's playing from 9-3, the latter scenario means that each Dj will come the fire tracks, because they need to make a statement. It's very hard for me to criticize Urban DJ's because unlike the underground scenes mentioned above, they really need to play it safe, and not just drop any badboy tune hear and there, becasuse that said song can create the wrong vibe, especially in London. Playing Lethal B's POW back in the day, could mean that was the last time you were booked by a promoter or club.....lol

Love the podcast. Completely agree with what you man are saying, particularly around raving in London. I just think everyone in London is so stressed out that when we do go out we still bare the life stresses on our shoulders. That’s why you got more people now on stuff when they go out just so they can forget or enhance a better mood thinking it will be a better night out. You go to a club it’s like People are just on auto pilot Why do you think people from London have a better time outside of London. Coz for that small window you have detached your self from London living.You’ve gone outta of town purely to have a good time leaving any baggage bk home.

This was a great podcast spot on it's exactly why l stopped raving. It just got same lazy DJ's who don't feel the crowd they are just playing in autopilot not reading the crowd. It's a vibe killer. It's another reason l started to teach myself how to DJ so l could play the musk how l want to hear it. No gigs yet it's hard being a female DJ but l will not give up because in terms of DJ.s now they are so Vanilla, no effort. lol I used to travel from Brum to come and rave in Eros with my London friends was good back then. Soon has l moved to London 10 years ago raving started to die here. Clubs are a dead ting here Londoners are too busy posing and gram pouting to enjoy the night. Thank God for the Dub scene that vibe is so organic it's all about the Musik and Vibez people talking about Musik dancing like no one is watching. You ain't getting that in standard clubs. This generation is missing out and yes you are right festivals have the Vibez that's the new club Vibez. Too much screw face business in clubs it's a vibe killer. 🎓🎼👀
@ZacharyAghaizu6 жыл бұрын
Keep searching, have you looked into agencies? Please don't feel like being a female restricts your opportunities in the dj scene. You just have to be willing to play commercial music if you really want the opportunity for gigs. It's hard because we all want to play what we love with vibalicious crowds, but majority of the time it's whats hot. It helps to just think about making people happy though. This is why i'm grinding hard on making music and the djing will finance it.

There's plenty good DJ's. Promoters/DJ's turned Promoters ruined the whole scene. Promoters stopped paying the going rate for good DJ's and instead found bedroom DJ's or Virtual DJ's with no crowd experience to play at the raves for £50 or less. Then rather than have 1 sound or 2 sound crews control the whole night they started booking bare man on one line up who wanna pull the trigger early and play big tunes because they don't know warm up tunes from any genre that get a rave poppin. You also get DJ's that give in to the sexy looking girls who come and ask you for big tunes from early because their tits are out. KMT (No Giggs).

Lets face it, DJing Urban music, means you can't play entirely what you want to, while performing. Djing House, Drum and Bass, Dubstep, and any other Dance music, means you have the freedom to play absolutely anything you want. There aint no promoter coming to tell you "can you play less dubplates mate, and play tunes the crowd will recognise", this will never happen......... The Underground scene is totally different, you go out for a real experience, and would be upset if you recognised half the tunes on the night. The underground works on the basis that, your only going to hear new upfront tunes, if you attend the clubs playing that music, which generally helps clubs, as people must go out to hear the latest Dubs.

I’m so glad this was discussed because for me as someone who appreciates music I won’t attend certain raves if certain Dj’s are playing because I know their set will be a whole drake album back 2 back for a good 30mins and then they’ll play “rack city”. Like you said chuckie In raves you’ll see the warm up Dj’s which do a good a job then the ones who continue to warm up and maybe drop a few gems and then you’ll have the Dj’s to tun up the raves and that’s how it should be. But often especially in birmingham I see the Dj’s who are are on from 12-1 will play all of the good tunes and then the Dj’s after will end up repeating the tunes and by then the rave is crap. Ravers get bored. So I totally agree with what you said. I do feel like not enough Dj’s play new tunes and just stay safe and what they know.

Marshall Campbell people don’t rate him for different reasons, they may not like his tunes or because he’s a devil worshipper.
