The best way (that I've seen) to keep most lint out is wearing bonnets or tying hair up when at home, wearing hair up on the winter to protect from wool and cotton scarves, and I changed a majority of my shirts. Most tops I own are made of a majority polyester or any other smooth fabric. Based on where your client's lint is, the problem is most likely shirts, jackets or not wrapping hair up and having cotton sheets.

Great suggestions! Her lint issues are present throughout all of her hair. It was just easier to show it in the back. She does tie up her hair most of the time she's at home or when she's sleeping. I think her hair is just like a magnet for lint.

Ugh. Lint is the bane of my loc existence. I usually just dye it or if it’s super terrible just restart that individual loc. I personally think some people’s hair just attracts lint. My hair has always done that even when I was a loose natural. I’d see small clumps of lint in my coils.

I maintain a regular maintenance regiment, use light natural products, wear a bonnet AND satin pillowcase EVERY night, brush thoroughly before my head gets wet, and I'm OCD about where I lay my head. I've been a saint since the beginning of my locs and still have noticable lint. I used to get so anxious thinking that the lint had destroyed my hair but I weighed the costs and decided I'd rather learn to accept the lint instead of cutting, picking out my locs, or covering my sun-bleached highlights with dye. When I point out my lint to others they all squint their eyes trying to see it and tell me that they would never have noticed had I not said anything. Her hair's health and, otherwise, cleanliness outshines those fuzzy white spots. I like her approach, if it's there it must be meant to be so accept it!

Thanks for sharing! Heavy products, grease, & oils often carry lint into the inner matrix of locs. Anything that’s not soluble in water that makes its way into the loc is likely to get trapped there, and if certain products can be washed out any lint that they carried with them may not so easily be removed because it becomes part of the loc. Changing shampoos can often have a purging effect on locs, so anything that’s inside that you don’t see is likely to rise to the surface as a result of switching to a new or different shampoo. That may be why some people’s locs don’t show that they have either build up or lint if the same shampoo is always used.
@AfrikanHairGod2 жыл бұрын
The funny thing is that I've never seen grease cause lint build up. I've been using grease for years for retwists and it's never been like this. I think it may be something that she's doing at home when she's not with me. I'm not sure exactly what that could be. The fact that it didn't pull out from the loc bath tells me that it's not due to product build up
@whome74982 жыл бұрын
Man I have so much lint build up that it pisses me off. One time I cut the whole loc off lol I have recently started ofcourse being on top of keeping my hair covered but also brushing my locs. I love the results from brushing my locs. I also do soak my locs but I don't use the ACV everytime. Acv soaks are only good for product build up. That damn lint build up is of the devil. At this point I pick out what I can and brush to get rid of surface lint. I also see you are brushing one by one. For me brushing one by one doesn't do shit lol but brushing locs just "regular" works better for get the surface lint out

I only use water n oil to moisture my hair. Next step is the ban oil from my regiment. I'm changing my shampoo too,so hopefully I will see a difference

My daughters loose hair collects lint. But she loves taking her bonnet off and putting blankets over her head. Even after thoroughly washing it, the only way to get the majority of the lint out is with a fine tooth comb in small sections.

My opinion, is that a loc bath is not to remove lint but to remove product buildup only. Do you think it will be beneficial just to dye the loc black, not to necessarily remove the lint but to conceal it...
@AfrikanHairGod Жыл бұрын
My thought process was that product build up was holding the lint. Not necessarily that it would rid it of it. You could dye it but she doesn't want to resort to using chemicals in her hair so she says it's just meant to be a part of her locs
@immaculenecarmelo37714 ай бұрын
Thank you for your honesty
@tanyabc Жыл бұрын
her hair is gorgeous so its probably not worth risking it, but the only thing that's helped me with lint build up is upping the baths, washes, and reties. i wash with a clarifying shampoo almost weekly, lint pick after a bath with hair soaked. reties give less space for lint to gather.
@alisonmiller27082 ай бұрын
You cannot get the lint out because the lint os trapped betwwen the loc strands and cannot slide out of the hair as it would if the hair was loose. She can stain the lint with semi permanent color depositing shampoo or conditioner. She can also spray black tea on the lint and over time the lint will become stained.

A better method to do a loc detox and remove lint is a bentonite clay mask. It pulls the lint from the inside of the loc to the outside and it can be pulled or brushed out easily. Now this method is more drying that the acv bath, so its best to wash it out with a moisturizing shampoo then do an aloe and hot oil treatment to immediatly put moisture back into the hair and counter dryness. And sorry....hair grease and butters are a no-no on locs. They both attract lint and dirt just by them being in your locs.
@AfrikanHairGod10 ай бұрын
You are very misinformed. Bentonite clay isn't a clarifier, it's a detoxing treatment. Clay washes leave clay deposits on the hair so it's impossible for any of them to truly clarify hair.. It removes metal deposits from hair thru ionic attraction so if anything it would be great for removing hard water deposits. If you are going to comment here please do not perpetuate misinformation. I'm not going to bother addressing the rest of your comment because my work speaks for itself and clearly you are new here. Thank you for watching but please be more mindful about your comments.
