Nehemiah 4:17 makes it clear the start of the 70 weeks

A decree in the time of Ezra/Nehemiah was indeed used by William Miller to justify inteprteting "the issuing of a decree" (Dan 9:25) as referring to an event in 457. I see a problem with that. Daniel's prayer is near the end of the 70 years of captivity, and in the first year of the Median Darius, that being the same Darius mentioned in Dan. 6:1. This puts Daniel's prayer at about 539 B.C. That is when a decree was issued to "rebuild the house of the Lord" (2 Chron. 36:23, Ezra 1:3). It makes sense to me to understand this to be the decree in view in Dan. 9:25. Ellen G. White made the argument for the date of the decree being 457 based on Ezra 7:12-26. But in the context of Dan. 9, it seems more likely to me that the 70 weeks begins immediately, and that would coincide with Cyrus' decree. More importantly William Miller (and Ellen G. White) were using the Artaxerxes decree to arrive at a date of 457 so that the 2300 days of Dan. 8:14 could point to 1843 (assuming as they did that "days" meant "years"). Contextually, regardles of what one makes of Dan. 9:25, the 2300 days of Dan. 8:14 has nothing to do with the time until the Lord's return. It refers to a period during which the temple was desecrated in connection with the time of the Goat, i.e., the Greek empire. Specifically, it refers to the period of time that Antiochus forbad the keeping of the law, set up his own high priest, and desecrated the temple. This took place from 171 till 164 B.C., a little more than 6 years, which corresponds to 2300 days.

@jeffsmelser874 ypu say that 2300 days refers to greece yet you can not show that 2300 years from the decree ends with Greece. Also the 70 weeks shows the death of Christ on the cross witch you also deny. For a prophecy to be interpreted correctly every detail has to be shown as being fulfilled or else your interpretation is wrong. So I fail to see you having done that

If everyrhing was done at the cross, then explain why the apostle says we have a high priest who sat at the right hand of God, what do we need a High Priest for if all was finished and why are we still here if all was done at the cross? I hope to hear your explanation using scripture.

I'm not sure what you mean by "everything." But the atonement was accomplished at the cross. As we discussed in the above video, the events of the Day of atonement described in Lev. 16, including the High Priest going into the Most Holy Place, point to the work of Jesus on the cross. Note carefully Hebrews 9:25-28 which compares the high priest's annual ("year by year") entrance into the Most Holy Place with Jesus' "once at the end of the ages" entrance. In context, this is referring to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, not some event in 1844. It is past tense (Heb. 9:24). It was "one sacrifice for sins forever" (Heb. 10:12). We are still here because the Lord wills it. "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance" (2 Pt. 3:8-9).

@jeffsmelser874 that is incorrect. HEBREWS shows Christ as our High Priest entering the holy and not the most holy so the work did not finish at the cross. The day of atonement was not yet fulfilled so you leave out things to fit your doctrine. Also you never answered, if all was finished at the cross, why are we still here?

@@jeffsmelser874 Daniel 9:24-25 King James Version 24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy. 25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. The 70 week prophecy clearly contains the coming of Christ ( bring in everlasting righteousnes) and in verse 25 Messiah the Prince is no other than Christ himelf. So from the decree on forward to Christ is incased in this prophecy so Greece has nothing to do with it.

So according to you God gives prophecy that we could never understand? 70 weeks is 490 days or years, every reformer understood that.

I believe we were careful to acknowledge that all those predictions we discussed were not made by the SDA church. But the SDA church did inherit the 1844 date from the Millerites, and to this day teaches that in 1844, Jesus moved into the Most Holy Place to cleanse it. Is that not correct?

@jeffsmelser874 that is true for the Daniel clearly states that. Hebrew rectifies it as well as Revelation. Tell me, when he writes to the seven churches, where is he at? Candlestick was on the holy place, that is where He was at. Have you ever studied the sanctuary? Do you know what the the furnitures represent? If you did you would have a better understanding. Miller studied the Bible, he did mistake the earth as the sanctuary but they went back to the Bible and found the real truth. I pray you do the same

Milleerites where composed of Baptist, Methodist and many other denominations, i am sure your church had members following Miller. So dont laugh so hard. Be respectful. These where people who loved Christ and honestly thought he would come.
