@@edlvsgng Switching to a powermaster starter, or a high rpm starter might help you out dude! I run one on my 94 ford IDI, and she fires up FAST. new glowies might help as well.

I had a 95 GMC Burb’ SLT 4x4 with the 6.5. Black with maroon leather interior. It was probably my most favorite truck I’ve ever owned.

Its either air in the fuel lines from a leak or a bad electric fuel pump or you need a set of glow plugs or your cold advance isn't working or you have to much advance. Take the time to track the problem and fix it before you do damage to the flexplate, starter, engine ect.

Good advice; wish I had thought of all this before I kept cranking it and caused the starter bolts to shear off 🤦♂️🤷♂️ live and learn I guess.... Thank you for the good advice

That kinda sounds a little like mine. I found that changing the glow plugs (7 or 8. Last one is hard to get to) helped start it up much faster.

Usually with a diesel it might be the glow plugs or the glow plug relay.

Thats not the problem. That is only used and done on carbureted engines not fuel injected engines. I think this guy is either having glow plug issues, injector issues or the fuel is starting to jell up do to the cold, diesel fuel jells up in cold weather if you don't add a anti-jelling agent to the fuel when you put it in your fuel tank.

I am not a specialist, but I don't think that pumping or playing with pedals are usefull for a diesel (as for an EFI).

Damn bud sound like my truck lol, u know I just unplug the coolant temp sensor and start it. Starts way faster but have to wait for a sec then plug it back in after its running good. Doing this till I have time to put my new glow plugs in

My ‘94 Silverado is pre-KOEO lift pump prime relay, and it still starts with less than five seconds of cranking, regardless of weather. Definitely NOT right. New IP/injectors and tank lift pump AT A MINIMUM! God that starter and those batteries took some abuse!! 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣

Sure was! On the next startup attempt the starter bolts sheared clean off while trying to start it.

@@tannerdamico9895 i have the replacement starter, but the challenge is drilling out the broken starter bolts. Im reverse drilled out 1 of them but the 2nd one is proving difficult. waiting for it to warm up to keep messing with it

starting ANY diesel cold like that is dumb. my 6.5 stays plugged in ALL winter and will start up to -40C (ish) here in Alberta. any colder and NO vehicle or person should really be outside anyways.

Holy hell is that starter unhappy. It shouldn't start that hard. Cycle your glow plugs 4-5 times before doing this.
