I totally agree I went a year without a heater blower fan in Minnesota.I said not another winter.I watched this video.Within 15mins had heat! And it must be a common problem because the previous owner had a spare relay in the glove box! ha! Made my day!

2 days ago my heat worked on the way to work and not on the way home (XJ 2001). I checked the fuses and the resistor, all were good and then I turned to the Internet. People on the main forums were arguing about whether this relay even existed. Then I came here, just like you I found the relay melted to the connector. I replaced it after some struggling to free it and bam, I have heat again for less than 20 bucks. Many thanks!

My issue was exactly the same, it was the relay. That relay controls an amazing amount of electronics in these Jeeps. Thanks again

Thanks for your posting. My 98 Cherokee sport blower quit. Fuses were fine but no power at te blower. Did not know there was a "blower relay" in the path. Pulled relay cleaned tarnished contacts and plugged it back in. Blower works fine. Thank you again for your video.

Thank you so much you have save me so much money in time I change the resistor and still did not work. I pulled the fan motor blower and tested it and it was working. Had no power to the plug after watching your video under the hood in the fuse box. There is a fuel pump and a starter is the same relay I swap the relay in the fan works perfect. Thank you so much. After a year your still helping us diy'ers. Mine was clicking badly on cold days and worked fine when it was above 50 degrees. It would work once the jeep warmed up and it stopped clicking. Needed location information mainly. Thanks for posting all the components in this system. 😁👍👍

Man I can’t wait to get my jeep out of storage, I randomly lost my blower motor. Did all the same things you did and sadly couldn’t use it as my winter beater because I left for OTR trucking and needed to get it out of my parents. I hope this is my issue!!!

Thank you for the video :) A volt meter would have saved you a bunch of time. This was my approach: Check for 12V at the blower motor. No 12v at the blower motor? check the fuse in the engine compartment. Fuse good at engine compartment? check relay. Discover the relay location is not disclosed in the manual? go to KZbin and find this video. Now I would have checked for 12v before and after the relay but mine was a little melted and crunchy. Replaced relay and all is well. My understanding is that when blower motor resistor fails usually people end up with just HIGH. This would make sense as that is a common symptom on other vehicles.

@@HellaKwik Glad I could help. if you end up installing a new one you might want to bend your male contacts to have more pressure against their metal female counterparts. Mine ended up melting slightly but Oreilly honored the warranty.

Don't forget to check the blower motor connectors for dirt or corrosion as well, my '99 stops working every nasty snow storm (just as everything starts thawing out). If so just spray it with some WD-40. Basically the seals get rock hard and doesn't do it's job at sealing from the elements anymore.

I found a video on how to take the glove box out (9 screws, looks pretty simple) but I'm not even sure for a fact there is a relay fuse back there.

Careful, Mine had partially melted the relay socket. It was stuck and had to be pried out. If it seems like it wont come out, it may be the same..

Done everything but the blower motor, praying that’s the problem. Door locks are going haywire, turn signals work when they want to but the 4 ways always do, windows don’t work, and no air or heat. PCM? Wiring issue? It’s a 2000 we just bought already with lights and a winch hooked up and also bought it knowing the windows were InOp

Posting my issue here so maybe it helps someone once i fix mine. My issues is mostly on cold morning but not always. My ABS and airbag lights stay on at start up, this is accompanied by my turn signals, blower, rear defrost and rear wiper all non operational. The 4ways still work. At any time, warmed up or not, the abs and airbag lights can turn off and all functions return. The jeep can be warmed up and all functioning, but then fail after turning it off for a fuel fill up. I can not suggest any one item is causing this to happen. There is a fuse that handles all these together, one of the big 40 amps under the hood. It is good. My assumption is a grounding issue. I don't believe one reply could cause all this (blinker relay under steering column or relay behind glove box) unless one could cause intermittent grounding to happen inside it. My first move after seeing this video is to slap the crap out of my dash, left or right sides, with the hopes its one of these relays lol Appreciate any input, I'll follow up when i figure it out. Edit: It took a few days for it to act up again, a winter storm did it.😅 I banged under the column and under the glove box, wiggled the key up and down. Nothing happened. Then I turned the key just slightly toward start and I heard clicking ( I had the blower turned on even though it wasn't functioning at the time) A couple to slight turns of the key and everything started working. Now, do I need a new ignition or is there some connection that need soldering. ..?

Always start with a wiring diagram and a multimeter. 30 minutes of testing will save you hours of time and replacing several good parts
