I had the Grey Judy XLC tripples they were absolutely amazing shocks! I can still remember them on my Saracen street trails bike in 2005 i have 170 Fox 38s now and to be completely honestly they ain't no Judys! Pretty shit to what i remember what my judys were like! I'd love to test a set today and see if its what i remember. Its funny seeing how short the lowers are to my fox 38s but the Judys were amazing and amazing price i remember they were £250 £300 ish new

Yeah, It would be good to see if they still stand up to your memories 😀.

I had a Judy XL and back then I was thinking it was fine until I got a Bomber 😂 In my souvenir they were ok but rebound was fast and damping practically non existent. Pogoing around 😅

@@LaurentiusTriarius Ha. To be fair, It was hard to beat a bomber back in the day. I have an early Z1 and it is a great fork.

I have the same (old new stock!) originally made for Harley Davidson bicycles. installed on my Trek Y22. But I think it’s 100mm spring both sides with no elastomers does it?
@retfurbАй бұрын
@@assafgol Yes, They did also make a later XL, Which was all springs.

Great job! Where did you manage to find the replacement elastomer material? Thanks

Thank you for the kind comment. I am happy with how they turned out. I actually purchased it from a seller on ebay. There are a few sellers which sell the elastomer type rod.

@@retfurb Thanks for the video! I actually just rode my vintage gt with this fork and it is shot, so needs a rebuild badly. What diameter was the elastomer? Do you know what lengths you needed to cut each side? Thanks!
@retfurb6 ай бұрын
@@BikingRoots no problem, I am glad you found it useful. They were 20mm thickness, but I cannot remember the lengths. Have you looked at the ones inside yours? You may have to do like I did and measure the distance inside like on the video. I’ve actually got another pair of these to do soon, but they had a spring conversion previously.
@BikingRoots6 ай бұрын
@@retfurb Thanks for the reply on thickness. No problem, I have not taken mine apart to see yet so I’ll just measure. I saw some place in the US selling a kit for possibly them but I’m waiting to see if he has any for that particular fork. Thanks again!

@@BikingRoots no problem at all. I know a lot of pre-made kits are more expensive. But then they are made to fit out the box.

bought an old pair of these, pull out the plugs..... pull out springs; start to think "wait a second these don't look correct.... where's the elastomers", nope cartridge; newer than I thought lol; they're not in great condition but mostly complete, I need to find my c clip removal tool; we'll see
@retfurb4 ай бұрын
@@plasmar1 they have probably had a spring conversion at some point. I have a pair here, that have had the elastomers replaced with springs.
@plasmar14 ай бұрын
@@retfurb they seem to be like this from factory, I found a owners manual that seems to match up; in the place of the elastomers is a joining nylon piece and than towards the bottom of the spring there is a part labeled Volume Compensator that has 2 nylon end caps(seems to offset about the space I image the elastomers would take up..... other bit not so fun is that the cartridge does not seem to be serviceable, factory crimped both sides..... possible may be able to change out oil via the adjustment but am unsure

@@plasmar1 ah, ok. I thought you meant it was just one big spring inside. Yes, the originals have spring and elastomer 👍🏻

Triple-clamp elastomers lol I love it. Old skool. Great result - nice work. Have you got a bike in mind for them to go on?

Thank you, I was happy with the result. Yeah, definitely old school tech. They have gone to someone I know, being fitted to a retro Marin.
