This conversation around ref abuse is a legitimate take. It started in youth hockey and now it is every sport over the last 20+ years. Our adult co-ed soccer league which is an affiliated USSF entity run by a state level subdivision that also helps out on the USL has gone as far as to schedule us on the USL field in order to consolidate games around the available refs. They sent out an email this week saying that any player who is registered and paid up in the league can take a compensated reffing course and then REF GAMES IN OUR DIVISION because they are just fully out of ways to make it work. When we chat with the refs pregame and postgame it's the number one topic that all the new guys quit when parents or players abuse them.

Obvious blown calls should get reversed if there is time to radio the head ref. This should not be happening in the playoffs like it has. If the announcers and the rules analysts agree it should be reversed multiple times in a conference championship game, that's going to make people question the league and it hurts the legitimacy of the NFL.

It is so easy to fix the Mahomes problem. The NFL over cooked the eggs protecting the QB. They need to keep it simple. If the QB runs he is a RB subject to the same rules and protections as a RB. This way a QB will really have to weigh the risk vs reward if he decides to run. This makes him responsible for his own health instead of the poor defensive guy and the hapless referees. It will be a step in restoring competition to the game again. Remember the days when 3rd and 9 was tough sledding? Not so much with today’s rules. They have turned the NFL into the Madden video game.
