I can't say how much your video helped me. I've had a new JVC head unit for nearly two years. I ran up against the "you'll need to by-pass the amplifiers" problem and gave up. This morning I completed the by- pass operation and with two new JVC speakers we're in business. Many thanks.

If you connected it like I showed in the video you should only be using the factory wiring harness to the adapter that connects to the head unit.. Take your time. Trace your steps. Use a multi-meter and check the continuity in the connections between the factory harness and the speaker connections in the door.

Thank you for this information and video. Will following this method retain the tweeters higher up in the doors? I'm just not sure how they run off the factory harness. Since you connected positive and negative to the new right and left main speakers; do you know if those wires branch off further down the line for the tweeters. If so, I wonder about ohms for them, if they are 0.5 same as the bose door speakers or maybe it doesn't matter.. Do you recall if your oem tweeters continue to function or just not work at all?

The factory tweeters will still work just the way they are.

Why wouldn't you just buy a $15 line converter and keep your Bose Amp to properly power your Bose speakers? Just use the after market wiring harness and pull the Green/Black wire out of your stock loom and plug it into your Red wire for ignition control. Just performed this over the weekend and it works great. Converter gives me proper control over volume levels.
@lcohen831
@lcohen831 6 жыл бұрын
The converter is a good idea if the Bose speakers and the head unit are still intact. Many of them are not. After years of heat and humidity the speakers fail, the cassette deck stops working, the CD player skips... This procedure shows eliminate them and the head unit and update to a modern system without rewiring the whole car.

Does that exist?? I have a 1999 American Miata NB1 with Bose 1M31 sound system and my OEM Bose speakers are in perfect condition and I want to replace the head unit in order to install a 2DIN Android. Where can I get that cable? I thought the only way to do it was to retire each bit of the Bose soundsystem and rewire the whole car! Thank you a lot in advance!
@yaweitong2848

Simple, because we do not want to use Bose speakers. Only the wires will be reused

@@TMiranda1994 I used Metra 70-7901 radio wiring harness. I only replaced the head unit with a double din one (for aesthetic purposes mainly & cause I had a pioneer touchscreen just laying around) I'm currently using the Bose amp & speakers that came with the car. Works good 👍 eventually I'll be upgrading the speakers & completely getting rid of the Bose system. My car: 1999 Miata NB1 w/ bose

Which wire goes to control the antenna so when you go into the radio it will raise up the antenna ?
@DwaineStroud

Icohen, Wouldn't the colors you used be the same for all of us with 1999 Mazda Miatas? If so, you've already done the busy work of figuring out which wires to use, correct? So, unplug the harness from AMP (or possibly just cut the wires off)... connect the speaker wires to the harness from the radio... use the Miata harness for power only. I think I've got it.

Thanks for this. I got confused and wired left to right, and right to left, but once i re wired, the stock speakers fired and I'm just waiting for the speaker brackets to come in. I couldn't, however, get the amp plug unplugged, so i cut the wires from plug. Should I be worried? Thanks again! This was awesome!

I don't know if this link will help you, but it shows how to bridge the connectors on the harness that goes to the bose amp. that way you don't have to cut it apart to bypass the amp. look at some of the photos that are uploaded on the thread. The problem with the amp is that you have to pretty much take the heater controls out to get to it so most people try to bypass it by disconnecting the harness that runs to it and then they find out they can't connect the speakers, reason being that there is only one harness that runs to the amp and back. this link shows you how to bypass the amp by bridging the "to" and "from" wires that run to the amp. Then you can leave the amp in the car unused. forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=627000 And here is a link to details about the wiring harness for different year Miatas. hope this helps. mazda-speed.com/faq/audio/#01

Can you keep your original speaks that are from Bose or do you have to change them out . I have both a tweeter and speaker setup on my 2002 Mazda Miata special edition
@lcohen831
@lcohen831 6 жыл бұрын
When you bypass the Bose amp the Bose speakers won't work anymore. Replace them with a set of non-Bose speakers. I used JL Audio speakers in the car in this video. Go listen to some at your local car stereo store and see what sounds good to you. Many of them come with a separate tweeter to replace the OEM units. Also, you'll need to use adapter rings to get a standard 6.5" speaker into a Miata door shell.

lcohen thanks for reply i installed a aftermarket headunit and speakers leaving the stock tweeters and bypassed the bose amp in the passed all was fine for for almost 2 years but one day it started cutting in and out of the 8" speakers and my headunit screen wouldn't always display i would have to reset it so i got a new head unit thinking it would be that but i still only get sound out of the tweeters im thinking moisture got in the headunit and or the speakers and fired the speakers but if that was the case wouldn't the tweeter be fried too? i was thinking maybe the plug came undone from the amp because i cant remember if i was supposed tobe plugged in, just tobe clear is there only 2 wires that control both tweeter and mid range speaker on each side?
