nobody minds the length of the videos. 30, 60, 90 minutes matters not. good time spent.

I was thinking about the GIANT overdrive spring when I briefly from the 4x4 to a friend's house. @255k, she's been almost used up, but with 3 quarts of tranny oil missing, a fresh oil change, she'll still need a water pump and alternator, but she drives down the road like a dream, notwithstanding 25 year old Firestone tires... go figure

I had a old chevy truck what had a drive shaft in it that the last ownner shorted his self. It was out of balance. Every 3 months the case would crack all the way around. After the 3rd tranny I replaced the drive shaft and it never had that problem again

Richard there is no need to keep apologizing for how long your video is. The more the better lol. I only know of 1 other person that is a badass when it comes to building trans like you. Love every minute of your explanations on how it all works. I know as a shop owner and working on cars an trucks for over 40yrs now I love how you go about it. I do have a question about how you say 48re with how the overdrive unit snap rings wear so what about a gas 47re are they the same. Hope you are doing OK with your shoulder surgery. Stay safe guys
@richardteresacricheducatio3542 Жыл бұрын
Yes sir they do have the same issue but they did re-designed that drum a little bit The 800 pound spring that applies that clutch I do not believe they ever changed how much force that spring can put on that clutch from gas to diesel you always want to replace that wavy snap ring but you want to look inside the drum where the snap ring rides because it actually wears the drum out to I really like those transmissions I like the sophisticated part of how it is put together and designed

@@richardteresacricheducatio3542 Thank you for the reply. I only ask cause at 275,000 on my wife's 97 dodge ram 1500 4x4 all ome never been into need a converter from towing the race car all over. I took the trans out an the wife talked me into rebuilding it an her knowing I don't know how lol. Well I went ahead an took it apart an it looked new an I was very surprised by the way everything looked. The trans had been serviced every 50,000 but it did set a converter code a couple times. So anyway I had a guy I know that used to work at a trans shop that put everything back together for me but I don't remember him checking that an the snap ring was broken cause the service before I found a piece of a snap ring in the pan. I never pressed the spring out though as he warned me that it was dangerous. I guess it is all good as I have 313,000 now. An again thanks for replying.

@@rprice7670 Clearly he would’ve had to of taken that apart and replace the snap ring and possibly the drum you would’ve never got that much farther with it with a broken snap ring nice talking to you
@rprice7670 Жыл бұрын
@@richardteresacricheducatio3542 I was the that took everything apart and I did put it in my press but I didn't take out the 800 pound spring that I believe has that little wire like ring holding it together. I know he brought some snap rings an some other stuff to assemble it back. I might be confused about what I'm saying about it. I do remember the wavey snap ring was broke. I wish I knew about you guys about 4 5 yrs ago cause I would have ask him about the things you talk about. The guy I worked for at a trans shop in 80s in GA is like you an wanted him to do it but time was a factor. Dan the guy that put it together lives about 3 an half hours away here in fla. I can say this we did some things but no where what you do an now I want to pull it back out an go back through it after watching all your videos on them lol. I wish we had someone local that is worth a darn but no. We buy all our trans out of Jax fla with good luck so far. I don't plan on getting rid of the truck an have owed the truck for 23 years now. It's to bad you don't do bench jobs but I do understand why. I know what Johnny would go through when I worked for him. Thanks again and I guess I shouldn't worry until something goes wrong lol. I do pull around 10,000 pounds an so far so good.

Ive got a 99 F350 7.3 with a 4r100 that randomly acts like the torque converter locks up when im coming to a stop. It feels like your trying to stop a manual trans without pushing the clutch in. What is going on here?
