Okay but if we're sitting in some function space where functions are only defined up to sets of zero measure, such as sobolev or L^p, then they are equivalent!

The discussion of domain makes no sense 1:09 to 1:19. You say that both functions have the same domain, and then say "therefore it can't be the case that these two expressions equal each other everywhere". That is nonsense. Since tan x goes to infinity at places where cos x goes to zero, 1/tan x also goes to 0. In the places where tan x goes to 0, sin x also goes to 0, so the fraction is finite and well defined. There is therefore no domain restriction to this identity and the conclusion of your video is incorrect.

Sin x and cos x are the same. As for the original expression, have you tried graphing it as is? What do you get? That’s your homework.
