‘99 Maruti Zen LX Restoration - R12 to R134a AC retrofit

Hi everyone,
In the next part of our ‘99 Zen LX’s restoration, here is the clip that shows the R12 to R134a AC retrofit done with the help of Subros’ service technician.
Earlier cars came with R12 gas which is an ozone depleting refrigerant and was eventually phased out, replaced by R134a gas. To help existing owners switch to the R134a systems, Subros launched retrofit kits back then. But the stocks of these kits were exhausted and we had to rely on parts salvaged from the cars.
This clip captures my experience of the switch from R12 to R134a system, Subros’ incredible customer support for a car that is over 23 years old and how an experienced technician did the job in a few hours’ time.
When the chilled air blew out of the vents after a really long gap, it brought back the memories of our first air-conditioned car! :’)

Hey thanks a lot for the feedback Jishnu. Zen has about 18-20 clips planned in all. Polo has now been sold and isn’t in my possession any more. It was never in the stock condition. I had done several modifications on it. You can watch most of the clips in my channel.

Hi Jithin, Please check these aspects: 1. Low refrigerant level 2. Thermostat or temperature sensor malfunction Best to take it to a garage that dedicatedly looks into car AC systems. They will be able to diagnose the issue faster.

Can u do this in urdu . Trying to to convert corolla 96 model r12 ac system Into 134a . Cos i just only change the compressor and condenser new dryer bottle. But at summer ideal speed i dont get much cool air . Kindly guide me. Mansoor from pakistan

Hi Mansoor, I have remade the same clip in English. It was scheduled for release much later but I’ll plan it for the upcoming Sunday, 02 Jun 24. Hope that’ll be fine. Please note you’ll have to change the piping and the seals along with the compressor, condenser and dryer bottle.
