2027 at School. 7th grade exam in art: "Name the 5 most important prompts to recreate a Van Gogh painting." 😄 So the more you want to get out of Midjourney the more you need to know about art and visual design. Seems logic and like a good thing 😃.

this is great and I have been building my own list…but this is the first video i’ve seen about someone else going down this rabbit hole. Thank you as its super encouraging❤

Thank you, it’s so helpful to see it from a wider perspective. Reading through the suggestions in the comments, I would love to see more videos both short and long processes. Completely enlightening thank you

Thanks for the comment, will definitely try to balancing both of those types of videos, I tend to favor the long process discussions myself when I'm watching content but I think there is something to be said for quick, bite sized value for most people. I think a balance is great as you said 😄

Subscribed! Great video (and great voice!) I appreciate your perspective. I'm an artist who moved to writing, and began using MJ to flesh out my characters and world and use as references, and at times it has been very frustrating. I share your views on AI art. I knew about the /describe command but have not been using it - but your description of HOW to use it is golden. As for videos, I would love two things: 1) More like this. 15 minutes or less, teach me a technique or two. 2) Deeper process videos where you go into something to teach something bigger around a concept. For example, one thing I am trying to do is get *consistent* characters with varying expressions. I have watched a LOT of content around this, and it's very tricky. Plus you want portraits, full body shots, different outfits and environments, all very fiddly. Any event, really looking forward to more - I've already learned something!

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and the thoughtful feedback! 100% hear you on the upcoming videos, will definitely try to work more towards a nice split like that in addition to maybe just popping by with the latest news of new apps/updates that will impact worldbuilding as I see it from time to time. Appreciate the sub and hope to catch you in future videos 😀

I'm really not trying to be an a**hole to anyone when I say this, but I found that you could probably build a collection of all your favorite AI artist's prompts and create fantastic imagery, but unless you experiment day in and day out your own visual language will not grow at all and all you will be left with is excellent looking images but very little satisfaction that only comes from intense digging. It's so satisfying finding out something by mistake and then reverse engineering it 🤩 Thanks so much for the video, really enjoyed it!

I’d love to see some tutorial content that gives some quick wins but I’d also love to see some full process, start-to-finish, stream of consciousness videos where you go from an idea to a finished image. I’d also love to see content that helps us reverse engineer images that we’re seeing. I often see cool images that I’d like to tweak and remix for my own personal projects but don’t know how to take an image, determine the inputs used to create that image, and then create my own versions that capture what I’m looking for.

Appreciate the response and feedback! The last part was a bit what I was hoping to achieve at a high level with this video, hard to account for all corner cases for different styles and images so thought I might share sort of the mindset I use when trying to build out a prompt to create something in a particular direction. I think you're right, it might make sense to throw something together from start to finish in the future as well as a nice case study, will give it some thought on what might be the most universal example that would make a good video. Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback!

As much as I enjoy the speed and results of MidJourney, it leaves me worried and feeling empty about the future of my own career, as well as that of my colleagues-many of whom have mortgages and families to support. Your tips are great, and I genuinely appreciate the insights. However, I noticed your comment about not wanting to engage in the debate over using 'in the style of' prompts. The reality is, by making this video, you're already part of that discussion. Without the core ideas, styles, and innovations created by real artists, where are we headed in terms of true, raw creativity? As a photographer who has spent three decades refining my craft, I see how AI can now replicate work that took years to develop with just a fraction of the effort. This is a complex issue, and I think it's important to consider how this technology intersects with the hard-earned skills and creativity of artists-the very people whose work has taught these generators.

I've noticed that MJ has problems with faces when the face is a small fraction of the image or there are many of them in the composition. Most look grotesque or melted. Any suggestions on how to get MJ to output more realistic-looking faces in these types of scenarios?

Honestly there's no singular solution for this type of thing, I think part of it is just the nature of diffusion models and how they work but there are a handful of things you can do depending on what prompts you're currently using and what type of style you're going for. I personally mostly focus on environments as opposed to characters but I would definitely start playing around with more photography based words, things like camera or lens types, as well as saying "photo of a " while avoiding things like "photoreal" or "photo realistic" since those are more used by artists. A combination of adding in photography key words and avoiding art terms like that will help MJ pull from more photo sources which will naturally be more true to life. Here's a link to a good resource for a list of key words that are grounded in photography: semicolon.dev/midjourney/portrait-prompt-tips-v4

Agreed that the vast majority of MIdijourney users, just play around with it. I believe it's an easy guess that it's mostly 14-18 year olds, who see Midjourney as a new toy to play with, until finding something more interesting. But since you made a point, as an artist, I would love to see more videos on the relation between Midjourney and the art community. Whatever that may be. Surprise us!
