Very interesting. The biggest benchmark for CPU gens versus right now looks to be Spiderman. 77% GPU usage for 10900k vs 98% for higher cpu. I don't play Spiderman, at least not yet. I think I'll still be ok on 10900k 4090 for now.

This is the test i was looking for... Huge thanks. Btw if someone wouldn't understand why this test matters: regardless if we talking about 4K, 1440p or even 1080p, if we buy an expensive GPU to play any game at Ultra the GPU will run at 100%. In this case the amount of FPS will be limited by the GPU (mostly). And this test shows we can keep our "old" CPU and just buy a new GPU if we want to keep up with the latest games. Good thing i have a 10850K and seems like it will be fine for a while... Now i just have to upgrade my GPU instead of jumping on the "always the latest gen hardware" wagon and building a new, expensive PC that would give me max 5-10% performance boost. If i put that money on the GPU i could get 80-100% boost with the same "old" CPU.

I am currently using a 9900K on a 4K60 monitor, and have only replaced the video card from GTX1080 to RTX3080 to RTX4090. Even though there is a difference in performance with the new CPU, it doesn't seem like there is any significant deterioration that would be fatal. With this level of difference, I personally don't think it's worth spending money to replace CPU + memory + M/B. I would like to continue using the 9900K+RTX4090. Hey guys, first time at gamerholics anonymous. Had a 3070, jumped to a 3090, and yesterday landed a 4090 FE. Felt irresponsible looking at the 3090 (paid $2300) and 4090 ($1758) on the table when I was swapping but it's still a cheaper addiction than drugs. I play almost 100% VR which is harder than 4k, so noticeable. I have a 10850k, not too excited about the new CPU/MOBO/Ram upgrade so I'll deal with the 1% lows for now

Interesting thing I found is in COD2022 though the frame rate is not so different between say 9900k and 13900k, but if you look at the frame time, it's a big different in that it's much more consistent in 13900k, which in turn gives a much smoother feeling.

The 1% lows for the 9900K are not great, compared to the newer CPU's. You'll experience the stutter and drops, that your CPU limits you to. Just really consider this when upgrading.

I'm using a 10900k (5ghz all cores) from 2020 paired with a 4090 at 2760 Mhz (no oc) and 32GB 3200 Mhz Ram. I was thinking about upgrading to a 13900k or 14900k, but seeing only 2%-4% difference in CP 2077 and RDR2, it would no noticeable difference except 1% lows, but my monitor and 4K oled are gsync compatible. Even the worse case, as in Far Cry 6, will I even notice a jump from 120fps to 144? I severely doubt that. Actually I'm just fine with not upgrading until after GTA 6 arrives on PC in 2026?. As by that time the upgrade to a 5090 or 6090 combined with a 16900k will be worth the money. Great video!! 👍

Although, looking at this video it mainly shows that thw biggest difference is in the 1% lows.. The 4090 is so amazing that during the 1% lows in game, the performance is still ao good.. I wondered if it was time to upgrade my 10900k to the 14900k, but it being the same as a 13900k, doesn't seem like it, since I play 4k. I was about to like your video, but it seems I gave it thumbs up from a year ago when looking to upgrade to the 13900k.

What the sense to test processors using 4090 without 720p or 1080p resolution? In 4k a video card is only one limiter.

in my opinion in order to see the 1%.... in games like spiderman there is more than 30% difference in the 1%.... and personally I can accept 1440p, but 720 or 1080 on a 4090 I really don't care, EVERYTHING will be bottlenecked with that card at these resolutions

'cause people playing games with a 4090 don't use 1080p since years and as you can see 4 gen of i9 and barely a difference in between. In any case not worth an upgrade. If you test 1080p you are just emphatizing the gap but without any sense at all.

This comparison makes no sense. You're benchmarking K-SKU's at STOCK clocks with zero overclocking. Unlocked for overclocking is the reason they're a K-SKU in the first place.

What I learned is I should be able to pair a 4070ti with my 9900k and get near the performance of a 13th gen build. I’m gonna go with a gpu instead of a new build and weaker gpu

So me with a 60hz 4k G-Sync Monitor and not aiming for any more than 60fps should keep my 9900k and just upgrade my RTX 3080 10gb to a RTX 4080 super 16gb 😁.

Games for i9 13900k have not yet been optimized, i9 12900k has been on the market for more than a year and shows good optimization. Games for i9 13900k are optimized only after a year. Cool strategy from Intel.

Actually, this is the only game in this test which suggest better experience on 13900 (0.1% low and lowest FPS values are the highest). I play single player games and just lock at 70fps, hoping that no scene ever will dip me below 55. It looks like even 4090 is not strong enough for Cyberpunk at 4k.
