Love the scene of Snake in the incinerator. How knowing that Hongou, the man who kidnapped him nine years ago for his experiment murdered his sister, he would make sure that monster wouldn't get away with it. Even on the verge of death, he refused to let go of Hongou, managing to withstand the kicks of a man bigger and more muscular than him. And also how despite his murderous rage, he wanted the others to escape. The snake managed to kill the lion

The damn safe ending man, I'd gone through so many playthroughs finally confirming he was alive and just as easily as he came he was taken away again. 999 was fantastic at being the emotional roller coaster it was, but even greater than that it broke your heart and patched it back together. This sucked but the true ending, when I opened that coffin again with clover, it was all good again.

It's a damn shame though that there is technically only one happy ending in the entire series and all those other routes that you take in the game where the characters are screwed over exist just as much as the true ending. Such is the nature of all these timelines. Basically, in this game's universe, there is always more suffering than happiness... Way more.

999 was one of my first video games and, as someone who is mostly interested by story telling, the way the various endings impacted how the player experiences the story blew my mind. If 999 was a novel or a movie and you only saw the true ending, you'd look at Snake and Clover's reunion and think "Oh, that's sweet. Moving on!". With the safe and axe endings, the true ending pack so much of a punch because you've seen first hand how much each of them was broken by their sibling's death. I'm gonna stop now but I could gush for hours about how much I love the way 999's story was told 😅

I'm thankful for the port with voice acting to xbox ones game pass for I would have never known of this gem. The writing , the characters, the music , the imagery, the puzzles all work to to tell a brilliantly dark story that has just enough light at the end of the tunnel to make it all worth it. Snakes sacrifice, Clover's snap, Ace being a murder in the worst way and not being the father figure I thought he was at first all building toward the true ending which was a well done mindfuck. Novel games on a whole are slept on but I've always loved a game with a great story and this one doesn't disappoint! 10/10

Part of me is glad that 999 is an underground classic that was just popular enough to tell its trilogy story and bow out. Can you imagine if it was popular? Uchikoshi being worked like a slave for more spin offs and sequels to the point where he loses passion for the series and intentionally tries to get fired. 999 gets remade with an over the shoulder camera, boss fights in every escape room, and the safe ending and true ending being DLC that come out 6 months after the game is re-released. 999 is a piece of artwork that could only be made when corporate greed hadn't entirely enveloped the gaming industry. Oh well, at least indie titles still have their integrity.

I'm practically in the same boat as you. Seeing how Danganronpa devolved into a more famous franchise than Zero Escape is, how it's online community is full of crazy people, how the fanservice for some characters ruined everything related to its seriousness for me, I'm kinda glad Zero Escape ended like this. I'd love to get from Uchikoshi a "Director's Cut" for Zero TIme Dilemma, as I think the game should've been treated better, or localizations for the book adaptation for 999 For the moment, guess we'll have to think how it could've been if Zero Escape turned into a niche cultural zeitgeist like Danganronpa or Ace Attorney ended being.

Zero Escape: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors will forever hold first place on my list of videogames with epic, EPIC story. Jeez, even the word epic seems not enough... Every... single... time... I hear this music and see young Akane's face in my mind... and this music along with that picture makes me forgive her for killing people and making people suffer... Just try, TRY putting yourself in her place and TELL ME IN THE FACE that you wouldn't do what she did. *Sob*

Shit I cried during that part. That double screen action... I played the whole Zero Escape series in one go in the past month. ZTD is GOTYR (Release in this year) and 999 is GOTY.

Paprika2215 I agree, they deserve a happier ending to this whole sad chain of events. And they have the power to make one for themselves. Though, they've still got a long road ahead of them, and a whole cult with a leader who has access to the Morphogenetic field... But just cause they don't have a million followers in their world... that doesn't mean they don't have thousands, maybe even millions of people who will watch their tale, and do what they can to help. Zero escape 3! Aksys, we hope you make it just as great as it's predesessors!

question when did they say Lotus' actual first name? I have never encountered it
@doggynolikey9 жыл бұрын
During the submarine end I think. (Spoilers) Seven regains some of his memory and remembers the names of some of the missing kids, including Lotus's. When lotus talks about her kids seven interrupts and reveals her identity.
@Thegeektoendallgeeks9 жыл бұрын
actually i double-checked that, but apparently lotus' first name never came in the english translation, only in the japanese copy

I really hate how they changed the final puzzle in the PC remake. It's no longer a puzzle actually.

...Not because I wanna save the world, but because I wanna see Junpei and Akane, as well as (21 year old) Sigma and Phi make out. Sue me if you want, you can't deny that you would want to see THAT! Dude, ESPECIALLY for Junpei and Akane, I hope there's a time and place where they can be together. If you played both games, you'd know that those two TOTALLY longed for each other.
