The 999 theme scared the shit out of me as a child. Listening to it to this very day still scares me. Every time it came on BBC 1. After watching this I used to go to bed and be petrified to walk up the stairs to bed. Having the theme tune playing in my head. It’s very cleverly done. The ticking clock of the emergency and the ambulance sirens, the “nee naws” “nee naws”and at the end 999.

The bbc 999 tv show theme used to give me nightmares when my nana used to put tv on when she watched the show at her flat in killamarsh and I used to have bad dreams of that show of me been hurt when I was staying over at my nanas flat when I was little and that theme tune is very depressing and scary and I am glad they don’t have it on BBC’ one anymore

This absolutely evokes such horror of the memories of watching this as a kid and when the theme tune plays my parents say "OK son bed time!" I'd lie awake for hours with this ringing in my head.....powerful memory.

I heard this recently and was instantly transported back to the 90s and how I couldn't get to sleep on a Friday night, feeling physically sick, palpitations, just hearing Michael buerk voice now can cause instant panick and loss of breathe. Remembering to stay in on a Saturday incase you were impaled by a fence post or electrocuted by a powerline. Tough days!!

I remember that one, the PE lesson that went wrong. The ambulance had to drive away slowly to avoid the speed humps and potholes. Fast forward 25+ years and nothing has changed with the quality of Britain’s roads

The ticking clock sound invoking a sense of danger and imminent threat accompanied by a chilling piano. The music's intensity begins to increase as the sound of an ambulance begins to kick in. The music and ambulance sound continues to grow more intense. A life is in danger and time is of the essence. And then BOOM! 999! Powerful stuff.

I remember on one these shows a young lad somehow ended up with one of the forks of his bike embedded in his head. I can't remember how it happened exactly but it stopped me from ever pulling wheelies again after that.

Hahah exactly the same here. That is the only episode I remember. I still have vague memories of the reenactment of it happening on the show. Genuinely still to this day all those years later when I’m cycling from time to time it’ll go through my head...metaphorically, for now.
