There's a trick that can be used to travel every mile of I-10 in the Los Angeles area, including the mile-long spur between US-101 and I-5 (miles 17-18). The way to do that going east is to run the full route from Santa Monica to I-5, get off I-5 at 4th Street, then use either State Street or Boyle Ave. to get to 1st Street, and from there, you can get on NB US-101 to the I-10 spur that includes the State Street/Soto Street exit (X18/19) at I-5. To do that going westbound, you have to double back on US-101, get off at 4th Street, and follow 4th Street to I-5, from where you can get to WB I-10.

Few questions from an Brit planning the same journey. A) I take it it's a free for all when it comes to lanes (i.e. no overtaking lanes)? B) Is there anywhere worth stopping midway? C) What's the main speed limit and how heavily is it enforced? Thanks
@sleetskate9 жыл бұрын
Andrew Quinlan A) Technically the far left lane is a passing lane but unless u have a cop at night who hasnt met his quota (which is very rare) your fine. B) IDK C) City freeways in beginning - 65 mph, desert freeway - 70mph. Just follow the traffic. Unless ur goin 85-90 your fine.

You were starting at Santa Monica I can see. To drive through the Santa Monica and San Bernardino Freeways would be a good idea if you were driving at night(Or on a Weekend) when the Freeways are empty, especially in Downtown Los Angeles. But you are driving in the daytime and the best route in that type of day would be to take the San Diego Freeway(405) North to the Ventura Freeway(101) East(Or South), where it would change over to the 134 at Burbank and you would take it all the way to Pasadena where it would change over to the Foothill Freeway(210). Once you are on the Foothill Freeway you would take it all the way to San Bernardino where you can hit Interstate 15 North where you could take it all the way to Las Vegas. It's a good drive though, and it looks like you are taking it at the twilight of the day.

@cjs8317210 жыл бұрын
99hourvideos Well, the fact is that the L.A. freeway system is so expansive that you could take any number of routes to get to the same destination. For instance, when my dad was driving a cab in San Diego, we had a fare to Woodland Hills, and the guy we were taking had us go on I-5 from National City, where I was picked up from school (the fare actually began near the International Border) to I-605 (and this was still when they had the old 3-lane per side Santa Ana Freeway alignment), and we took I-605 north to I-210 west to CA-118 west to DeSoto Avenue. Coming back toward San Diego and points further south, we took Ventura Blvd. to I-405 south, and took that until the merge with I-5 in Irvine, and took I-5 the rest of the way. But a much more direct route would have been to take I-5 to I-405, and then take I-405 to US-101 and get off on DeSoto Avenue to get to the same place. L.A. has the most expansive freeway system in the country, but it's still jammed up most of the time because you're trying to put the combined population of Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia on that freeway system at once most of the time. How on Earth you were lucky enough to get a day when it was free-flowing traffic in downtown Los Angeles, I have no idea. In 2005, my dad and I took a trip to L.A. because he was to see a doctor not far from Hollywood, and once we got to the I-5/CA-91 interchange, it was a mess from there all the way to the East L.A interchange, where we got on I-10 west, and it was still jammed all the way to where we got off on Venice Blvd./Washington Blvd. (Surface streets flowed better than I-5 or I-10 once we hit Buena Park.) And coming back, it was no different. We actually delayed the trip back and got supper before coming back, knowing what we were in for, and sure enough, the traffic coming back was no better on I-10 east or I-5 south until we got to about Rosecrans Ave. on I-5 south, from where it was an easy ride the rest of the way to San Diego.
@smithraymond0902910 жыл бұрын
***** 9 times out of 10 the 210fwy is a much better drive than the 10fwy.
@cjs8317210 жыл бұрын
And a major reason for that is the fact that I-210 misses the heavily populated areas of Los Angeles, while I-10 begins in Santa Monica, goes right through downtown L.A., and eventually goes through Pomona and Ontario, while I-210 stays north of each of those places. And 60 is not that good of an alternate, because it also goes through many of the same areas that I-10 goes through (downtown L.A., Pomona, and Ontario), just slightly south of I-10.
@theilluminedone789610 жыл бұрын
***** Both are ass. The 60E to the 15N is the way to go. Can do Vegas inside 4 hours without having to look for cops if you do it right. I have heard of runs inside 3.5 hours but the cops are waiting along the 15 for idiots to blow by and fuck you over.

I'm intending to go from Las Vegas to Las Angeles. Where I should stop to refuel and where I should stop to eat?
@cjs831728 жыл бұрын
+Heitor Ribeiro My dad and I traveled from San Diego to Las Vegas in 2006, and on the way to Las Vegas, we stopped for lunch at a restaurant on Lenwood road, just off I-15 in Barstow, and there are gas stations there, as well. Coming back from Las Vegas, we ate lunch in the town of Baker, which is 90 miles south of Las Vegas and 60 miles north of Barstow. But when and where you eat and fill up should be determined by what time of the day you leave, because you're bound to run into a lot of traffic, whether it's leaving Las Vegas, between Baker and Barstow (especially approaching the Agricultural Checkpoint near Yermo), and of course, almost anywhere from the Cajon Pass (especially with the ongoing road work at the Devore Interchange, where I-15 and I-215 split) to any destination in the Los Angeles area as I-15 is the main north-south thoroughfare between Las Vegas and San Diego, and I-10 is the busiest east-west route, but I-210 (signed CA-210 at I-15), CA-60, and CA-91, which leads to Orange County (particularly Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm) and Redondo Beach, are also terribly busy with traffic.
