At the very beginning “deń” (day) sounds like “d-yen”, Boris Johnson also pronounced it like “dyen”. Probably because Russian “e” palitisizes the preceding consonant - Ukrainian “e” doesn’t do that, it’s just dE, not dye. Also, as a Ukrainian I freaking love how Balto-Finnic languages sound (Finnish and Estonian as well as Karelian, Veps, Izhorian and Votic if pronounced properly without strong Russian accent). They sound so melodic. It can’t understand anything (I wish I could), but phonetics are just alluring!!

Not just 1870s, the 1600s and 1700s were full of terror for our home region too. There was a time when the entirety of Ostrobothnia was so burnt to the ground by the Russians that the Swedes reported back that there was nobody who would be able to pay full taxes. Most farms were completely gone. Not to mention those who didn't manage to hide in the forests in time were either raped and murdered or taken as slaves to Russia where they were used to build St Petersburg.

He ovat mitanneet vanhojen pääkallojen mitat, nähdäkseen, mistä me tulemme ja mitä rotua olemme.

Me annamme pahimmassa tapuksessa passiivisuutemme muuttaa niitä ja siten itsemme. Joskus heikommat saavat siitä jopa pieni summa rahaa. Hienoa toki, että kallot palautettiin. Agreed. One loser has robbed the whole nation to cover up his failure. And the only ones who get it in that nation leave. "Ryssiä", or to "russianize", in Finnish, is an official word meaning: to utterly fail, to f*ck up (oftentimes by neglect and laziness). This was true then and is true now and people there show very little will to change. So they will drown in their own failure and they will drag any true patriot or lover of Russia into the sh*t... and sadly that is the only Russia anyone will ever know. Tragic.
